View Full Version : Valerie: Golden girl (Dressbarn)
Discussing the recent work of Valerie Lefkowitz is something of a bittersweet experience for aficionados of timeless beauty, because it is impossible to forget the glory of Valerie's beauty several years ago, when she was a luscious size 14/16, and, for a time, the most beautiful and popular model in the industry.

Still, the summer promotion from Dress Barn deserves a mention, because some of the photographs are rather pretty. Dress Barn often produces campaigns of superlative aesthetic quality (the Winter 2006 promotion was outstanding, for setting and theme), so it is always a pleasure to give them a "plug."

This new summer image is Valerie's most attractive picture in some time. It is the first photograph in many seasons in which she has exhibited the physical trait that was so admired by Firenzuola and other Renaissance aesthete: the "slight rise" of a "slope toward the throat." This was always one of Valerie's most attractive characteristics in seasons past, and, as Firenzuola asserts, is quite possibly "the foremost ornament" of beauty in full-figured goddesses.

Note also Valerie's luminously fair skin, and golden girls. She may be credited in no small part for helping to bring back the fair-featured look of timeless beauty that other models who have followed in her stead, such as Kelsey Olson, have perfected.

Valerie's fair complexion is also evident in this breezy picture. The freshly-cut flowers are a wonderful touch. If only she could regain her former curves...

And in this image, Valerie's arms exhibit at least at trace of the shape that they once possessed. The backdrop, although simple, has a certain sunlit elegance about it--better by far than a studio setting.

An attractive campaign, then--yet one that cannot help but bring back memories of the fuller-figured Valerie of the recent past, who was one of the most exciting talents that the plus-size industry has ever known.

I actually walked with her across 8th ave on 14th street one day in NYC. She was very beautiful.
