View Full Version : Oprah statue (better than it sounds)

Okay, so an Oprah statue doesn't sound like it could be a thing of beauty, especially not for those who (like me) are emphatically NOT fans of Oprah herself, or her politics, or her show, or anything about her.

However, I was surprised to find that a new sculpture depicting "O" is actually remarakbly beautiful - figure-wise, at least. If you imagine a different face, with different hair, on this artwork, you would actually have an attractive depiction of womanly beauty.

It reminds me of a cross between a Classical Venus and a prehistoric fertility statuette. The work is characterized as:

a very full-figured likeness of Chicago talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey.

"The Oprah Sarcophagus" is the latest celebrity-centric sculpture from artist Daniel Edwards.

The sculpture features Oprah...with, as one report describes it, a full-breasted woman with generous child-bearing hips.

The image is attached to a block in the shape of a burial chamber, much like an ancient Egyptian sarcophagus.
Here's a link to a write-up about the piece:

I like it. It looks Egyptian to me, like some of the statues of full-hipped queens. It's a beautiful image.
