View Full Version : Carisal: F/W 2008-09
We couldn't let the winter season go by without spotlighting a fine campaign from Spanish plus-size label Carisal.

As far as Iberian full-figure fashion goes, Biluzik gets the lion's share of attention, thanks to its full-figured primary model, Alba Ruiz. However, Carisal has a distinguished star of its own, whose work we have celebrated in previous threads, and she does a marvellous job in this promotion.

Furthermore, Carisal has significantly improved its overall presentation. This time around, the company took its cameras out of the studio and shot its fashions in attractive outdoor locations (which significantly enhance the appeal of the images).

Nevertheless, the real highlight of any Carisal campaign remains the delicious figure of the company's principal model, who possesses the most beautiful legs of any plus-size goddess. Her celebrated legs are soft, round, and free of any trace of unattractive muscle tone, their lovely shape due entirely to the natural fullness that accrues from self-indulgence.

In this, the standout image of the campaign, the model coyly pulls aside the hem of her dress, to give the viewer a clear look at her shapely limbs. Carisal's star may not have the prettiest face of any full-fledged goddess, but no man could possibly resist her opulent legs, and she knows it. The dress is quite attractive, flowy but delicate and feminine. Very chic accessories too. The setting is suburban, yet the walkway on which she stands looks elegant, and the green foliage in the background complements the purple accents in her outfit. The overall impression is quite idyllic, and the model comes across as self-satisfied and voluptuous in nature, clearly a devotee of pleasure rather than work.

In the following image, although the shadows from the tree somewhat obscure the light, one nevertheless perceives the robust fullness of the model's legs. They seem thick and heavy--alluringly so, creating a desire in the viewer for tactile appreciation. Her pose is curve-accentuating, and the purple dress (such a lovely colour on this model) is revealing enough to show off her beautiful arms--features that are usually overshadowed by her more celebrated attributes.

The next outfit is middling at best, but the picture is nonetheless attractive in how the grey tights define her curvy legs. Note how one of the boots can barely encompass the fullness of her calves--an intensely sensual detail--while the other boot has been unzipped, being simply too narrow to encase her generous limb.

The following image rivals the first as being the finest of the entire campaign. Clearly, the boots are barely wide enough to contain her sumptuous legs, and in this image, one even sees the decadent fullness of her thighs. The vibrant hue of her tights further highlights her lovelist physical features. The black portions of her outfit seem to disappear, while the eye lingers on her generous legs. The Romanesque structure in the background is majestic and noble, and gives the image a timelessness that belies the modernity of the outfit. The grey stonework effectively sets off the vivid purple that she wears.

The next outfit is not particularly attractive, but the image derives interest from the fact that the model's boots have clearly been unzipped, being too narrow to encompass the luscious fullness of her decadent calves.

Here is another stellar image from the campaign--the third-best of the lot. The colour of the dress is attractive, and although the style is not very appealing, it does define her buxom charms, and, best of all, is fitted enough to show an attractive swell at her abdomen. The columns on the left, and the elegant structure in the background, harmonize with the timeless beauty of the model's figure. The greenery on the right complements the hue of her dress and accessories.

For a change of pace, here is Carisal's model looking sinful in red. The design is too loose, but wins points for showing off the model's arms and decolletage, and, most importantly, for being abbreviated enough to display her terrific legs. Note the clever incorporation of red touches in the background, down to the rust-coloured stones of the walkway.

The final "leg shot" of the campaign shows the model in a moderately appealing purple dress, which merits kudos for being sleeveless, and for displaying a relatively deep V. Pretty as she is, Carisal's model could stand to be a bit fuller-figured, particularly in the upper body. Her legs, however, are perfection itself.

This interesting image arrests the eye thanks to the model's curve-accentuating sashay of her hips, while her hands-in-the-hair pose is always a winner. Observe the tunnel-like effect achieved by placing the model centre-frame amid the colonnade, which draws the viewer in, creating an almost three-dimensional sensation. Again, note the creative colour usage--dark purple slacks complemented by dark green foliage to the right. The elegance of the setting underscores the model's Classical beauty.

For another interesting use of the same background, here the model is placed off-centre, yet the tunnel effect remains, as do the colour complements--the deep-purple top harmonizing with the dark greenery to the right. Very effective gaze, on the model's part--the corner-of-the-eye look being a perennial favourite.

This may be the model's best pose in the entire campaign--a terrific sideways gaze, and an especially appealing bit of business, playing with the necklace. (Girlish touches, like toying with accessories, always enhance a model's appeal and make her seem more youthful.) The pale blue sky complements the model's pink lipstick (and, yes, that is surely a deliberate arrangement on the photographer's part, given his obvious sensitivity to colour).

Plus-size fashion has yet to discover the allure of the bare back, exemplified in the following image. Although the exposure is relatively minimal, the expanse of pale skin is quite seductive. Red lipstick is, of course, a fine choice with an all-black outfit and dark tresses. And the pose suggests womanly curves.

Note how the lush green background invigorates this photo of a black outfit. The style is not very adventuresome, apart from the V neckline, but the fit is close enough to provide an attractive definition of the model's contours.

Here, the emerald green wonderfully complements the dark-red sweater. Very nice smile.

Carisal's secondary model is not as notable as its recurrent star, but the following image deserves inclusion in this thread, if only because the outfit so clearly defines her rounded abdomen and generous thighs. One wishes that all plus-size retailers would abandon their use of the faux-plus girls and enlist the services of genuinely shapely models such as this--and furthermore, show off their sumptuous figures so clearly.

Bravo to Carisal for its best campaign to date. It could have rested on the undeniable appeal of its star model (and her gorgeous legs), but it upped the ante by taking its photography outdoors and enlisting the services of a talented photographer, who chose attractive settings to accentuate the beauty of the company's outfits.

The result is both size-positive and an artistic triumph. Plus-size retailers on this side of the Atlantic could take a cue from this promotion.

You can view more images from the campaign at the link provided below.
