View Full Version : Kelsey Olson: On Target

<br>Where are the most stunning images of timeless beauty to be found this season?

Not in a film, this much is certain. Nor in a fashion mag. Not even in a museum--although that would be a reasonable assumption.

No, for spring 2010, the most breathtaking depictions of feminine loveliness are to be seen . . . in the 1,750 Target stores that cover 49 of the United States of America.

Even as we speak, in-store posters featuring the gorgeous Kelsey Olson are going up in Target's plus-size departments nationwide, in a campaign for the Merona label, photographed by the world-famous Pamela Hanson.

This means that over the coming season, the greater part of the American shopping public will be feasting their eyes on this fair angel, and will therefore be rediscovering the true nature of ideal beauty.<p><center>* * *</center><p>Kelsey's posters highlight a new line of ultra-feminine floral-print dresses with thin shoulder straps (as seen below), which promise to show off the beauty of many plus-size girls' figures in the coming season. The styles are in fact quite appealing.<p><center><a href="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target02.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target02a.jpg" border="0" alt="Click to enlarge"></a></center><p>Two images from the campaign have been released so far, the most beautiful of which is this one, showing Miss Olson with a male model in a party-like setting. Kelsey wears her heavenly blonde tresses in a youthful version of a beehive hairdo, one which accentuates the soft roundness of her facial features. Beehive styles can be remarkably flattering for voluptuous vixens, so long as the wearer has sufficient natural length (as Kelsey does) from which the 'do can be constructed, and with enough hair remaining to flow freely over her shoulders.<p><center><a href="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target05.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target05a.jpg" border="0" alt="Click to enlarge"></a></center><p>Kelsey's pose and expression are completely natural, without a trace of contrivance. One fully believes in the impromptu, snapshot effect that the image attempts to capture. Kelsey radiates the joy of the moment, exuding a delight in her own being, a comfort with herself, that is utterly irresistible. <p><center><a href="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target05.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target05b.jpg" border="0" alt="Click to enlarge"></a></center><p>A closer look reveals the full measure of Miss Olson's gentle allure. The image displays that most sensual of facial features, a soft curve under the chin. Her smile is warm and unaffected, gladdening the heart of every viewer. And observe a fun contribution to Kelsey's look from the cosmetics team--turquoise nail polish. Like the pretty hairstyle, though, the nail colour is just window dressing. Ultimately, it is the model's own extraordinary beauty, and her playful but natural demeanour, that make the image a masterpiece.<p><center><a href="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target05.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target05e.jpg" border="0" alt="Click to enlarge"></a></center><p>In the second image, Kelsey is paired with a straight-size model, but although the latter is pushed forward in the picture, it is Miss Olson who commands all of the viewer's attention. Observe how her golden tresses flow over her bare skin, drawing the eye toward her modestly revealed decolletage.<p><center><a href="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target06.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target06a.jpg" border="0" alt="Click to enlarge"></a></center><p>Again, the happiness that Kelsey exudes is infectious. To look at her youthful prettiness and joyful demeanour is the find the cure for every worldly misery, for no one could gaze upon her loveliness and fail to have their spirits lifted, and to feel a song in their heart. She is every young man's dream girlfriend, and every young woman's ideal vision of herself.<p><center><a href="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target06.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target06b.jpg" border="0" alt="Click to enlarge"></a></center><p>A closer view shows her dazzling beauty. The lidded-eyed look is a relative rarity for Kelsey, who otherwise loves flashing her big, baby-blue eyes. Notice the unique effect that she achieves here, though--instead of dark seductiveness, she generates a more, coy, flirtatious kind of sensuality, something more youthful--and therefore, more authentically and genuinely attractive.<p><center><a href="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target06.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.judgmentofparis.com/kelsey/target06e.jpg" border="0" alt="Click to enlarge"></a></center><p>Looking at these images, one is reminded of Lucie Sholl's marvellous observation about Kelsey, that <i>"She looks really ageless. She could be really young, or she could be a little bit older."</I> Whereas in the LucieLu campaign Kelsey went for a more mature, twentysomething look, in these pictures she is at her youthful best, playing up her girlish qualities. She is heart-stoppingly gorgeous, but in the less mannered, more honest way that is characteristic of younger girls (or of young women who are princesses at heart).

No other model presents her beauty is as natural and effortless a way as she does, which makes her not only the most attractive of all currently working plus-size models, but the most believable as well.

Kudos, and a standing ovation, to Target for this gorgeous promotion, and to Kelsey for unfailingly creating fresh looks and new personae in her every campaign.

I reflected on this as I looked at some of the red-carpet images from the Oscars. I thought, "These skinny women are supposed to be the paragons of loveliness in our culture? None of them, not one, comes close to Kelsey's beauty."

I'm thrilled that Kelsey has landed such a high-profile campaign. The images are beautiful! And how exciting to think that she'll be seen in so many stores, by so many people, in every corner of the country.

She's an angel in human form, gorgeous beyond belief, but at the same time she seems approachable and fun-loving. And I really respond to the comfortable vibe that she gives off, the sense that she's so at ease with her body - in fact, that she loves her curves. She's everything I look for in a plus-size model, and all I can say is bravo to Target for having the sense to make her the face of its plus-size line.

Ooooh, I adore these! She looks so pretty! I especially love the first of the two posters, where Kelsey has her head down. That hairstyle looks soooo good on her. She looks sweet and adorable, and so happy with herself. I've always wished I could feel that way too.

And I love the fact that the pictures have a theme. Wherever this party is going on, with Kelsey in attendance, I want to be there!

I wish every store in the world had posters like these, instead of pictures of starving, skinny models.

And it's true that the Target dresses look cute. Great for warm summer weather.

You know, it really is true that when you connect with a model, she can inspire you in all kinds of ways. For example, I would never have thought to wear turquoise nail colour. Or I might have thought about it, but I would never have actually done it. But seeing Kelsey looking so pretty with this colour, I'm thinking, "Yes, I can try that too."

It's more than just Kelsey's amazing beauty that makes her images so appealing. She communicates a whole way of thinking and feeling about oneself that leaps right off the posters. I was bogged down with a thousand different concerns before I saw those pictures earlier today, but looking at them make me want to push it all away, put on a cute dress, and go dancing. Kelsey gave me a wonderful moment of freedom in a difficult day.

These are some of the loveliest pictures ever of a model who continually sets the standard for timeless beauty. If Helen of Troy were ever seen dancing at a party, this is what she'd look like.

These pictures are so lively and energetic, and present Kelsey's heaven-sent beauty in such a delightful way, that I could easily imagine them as part of a terrific magazine editorial, or as a series of ads, in Seventeen or some other great fashion-forward magazine. In these posters, Kelsey shows exactly how a young woman can look and feel in the dresses on offer. Kelsey tells a whole story in her pictures. It's amazing, really.

And I have to say, the fact that these gorgeous pictures appear in Target puts many prominent plus-specific retailers to shame. They're better than anything that any plus specialist has produced for the spring season. It is a measure of real enthusiasm for the full-figured customer on Target's part that the company booked Kelsey to shoot with such a prominent photographer, and placed these posters in all of its thousands of stores. It makes me feel a whole new respect for Target, frankly. And the next time I have anything to purchase that both Target and another store offers, I'll choose Target, just as a tiny token of thanks.

I hope they book Kelsey again in the future for another great campaign.

Bravo for Target for using a young, fresh, vibrant plus-size model. I would be thrilled if they would incorporate some of that fresh, youthful, vibrance into their plus-size clothes. It would be nice to be able to purchase something other than cargo capris, graphic t-shirts and shapeless jersey knit dresses from their plus-size department.

<br>Let no one doubt the power of a gorgeous plus-size model to sell clothing.

A lady who runs a shopping 'blog with a connected Twitter account sent us the following intriguing tweet (viewable <a href="http://twitter.com/LBCShopper/status/10853665004" target="_blank">here</a>) in response to our message about Kelsey's in-store Target posters:<p><i><blockquote>@judgmentofparis: [I] was at Target today [and] saw the ads with her. [She] looks great, but no dress in stores. I want that dress she has on!</blockquote></i><p>Isn't that extraordinary? This anecdote dramatically testifies to Miss Olson's effectiveness as a model. This lady was so taken by how beautiful Kelsey looked in her dress that she went to Target specifically to find and purchase the same item.

It's a pity that she didn't find the dress for herself, but her comment exemplifies how powerful an impression a gorgeous plus-size model can make on full-figured customers. This lady wanted to buy the Target dress for one simple reason: because she viewed Kelsey wearing it, and liked what she saw.

Despite what the media's bogus surveys and studies claim, real-world examples prove time and again that beautiful and genuinely full-figured models--and Kelsey in particular--are <i>extremely</i> effective at selling clothing. Customers respond to these goddesses, seeing in them an idealized version of themselves.

If more companies featured images of plus-size beauty in their advertisements, their clothing would fly off the racks (provided, of course, that their stores would actually stock the pictured apparel).

I'm not at all surprised that this customer wanted to buy the dress because she saw Kelsey wearing it, or that the Target store had sold out of the item that Kelsey modelled. What girl or young woman wouldn't want to look like her? And what guy wouldn't want to be the dude beside her in the posters? She is the most beautiful model in the industry today, the one who brings to life what everyone imagines, deep in their hearts, a plus-size model should look like. She's radiant in these posters - fresh and pretty and relaxed. No one else represents curvy women as effectively as she does.
