View Full Version : Carisal Fashion: S/S 2010

3rd April 2010, 18:32
One of the most exciting and size-positive campaigns of 2009 was the fall/winter promotion from Carisal Fashion, featuring a gorgeous and genuinely full-figured blonde goddess. We have followed the campaigns of this Spanish plus-size label for several years, but last season's catalogue marked an all-time high for this company, one that showed their model looking decadently full-figured, yet chic and sophisticated as well.

Now Carisal has released its spring/summer 2010 promotion, and not only does it surpass last season's efforts, but it is altogether one of the most exciting and size-positive campaigns that we have ever seen.

What makes it so thrilling is that the Carisal model appears to have become even fuller figured and consequently more beautiful. Moreover, the photography celebrates her every luscious curve, as do the fashions that she models, which are a step above the usual quality for a continental plus-size label.

Also, the model's vanity appears to have increased with her dress size. She luxuriates in her opulent beauty, as indicated by this image, showing her teasingly playing with her golden tresses. Note the softness of her limbs, the fairness of her skin, and, above all, the sensual swell at her waist.

The following image shows her with her hair seductively tousled, adopting a high-fashion pose and exuding self-assured attitude. Yet notice the gorgeous fullness of her midsection. The model's demeanour is that of a girl who considers herself supremely desirable, envied by all women and desired by all men. She feels, rightly, that the well-fed roundness of her waist does not detract from her appeal, but enhances it.

In last season's campaign, the Carisal model exclusively adopted serious expressions, but in this promotion she allows herself to be more playful as well. Perhaps her surrender to her indulgent tendencies has given her a greater feeling of self-satisfaction and pleasure in her own body. She appears very relaxed and playful in this image. Observe how the image acknowledges her most gorgeous facial feature, the adorable curve under her chin. Note too the close fit of the top, with the buttons slightly tugging open at the waist--a highly sensual detail.

Carisal's spring/summer palette mixes whites with pinks and berry colours, which perfectly complement the model's golden tresses and fair skin. Truly full-figured models always look attractive in states of repose, as does the Carisal goddess in this image, which suggests the luxurious weight of her figure, thanks especially to the fullness around her middle. Her big, beautiful eyes fix the viewer with a look of sedate anticipation, a comfortable expectation of worship.

Carisal mixes its casual offerings with various items that are more on the professional side, but the model's plump beauty infuses even these looks with extraordinary sensuality. Observe the seductive fullness of the curve under her chin, and the heady glimpse of her decolletage.

Beyond her extraordinary beauty, this goddess is also a supremely talented model. Consider how she changes her demeanour to suit the outfits that she presents. In this image, showing off a passionate red dress, she adopts a correspondingly hot-blooded expression. She reveals her alluring greed here, exposing the insatiable appetites that have endowed her with such an opulent figure. Her limbs are soft and untoned, for never would she subject herself to even a minute's exercise-torture, secure in the knowledge that her beauty is sufficient to get her anything she desires without the slightest exertion.

Like many of the most gorgeous fair-featured blondes, she can play up an angelic demeanour whenever it suits her, to mask her secretly rapacious, appetitive nature. Here she adopts a softer, gentler mien to correspond with the baby-pink hue of the garment. She looks fresh and sweet and innocent, like an adorably spoiled young girl. From a photographic standpoint, the picture is a remarkable study in colours.

The next images show further evidence of the gorgeous curve under her chin. Few models have ever displayed this characteristic so unapologetically. Yet she poses in a chic, high-fashion manner, with an openly seductive look in her eyes, thus endowing this casual garment with an allure that it would otherwise not possess.

Here again the generous rise of the "slope toward the throat" is fully visible. Indeed, the model's alluring pose, showing her brushing back her tresses, seems expressly designed to draw attention toward her plump facial features. "Look at me," she seems to say, confident that a single glance at her beauty will cause any mortal to fall under her spell.

Next, she shifts back into a more demure pose. Reserved as she may be, the way in which her hair falls forward still infuses the image with a certain frisson, while her eyes flash a come-hither look. There is a vulnerability in her demeanour that is especially fascinating, given the robustness of her figure.

Still, the most gorgeous images of this Carisal goddess are the ones that acknowledge the fullness of her waist, as does this casual yet eye-catching photo. Note the placement of the sash: high enough so that it does not constrict the model's sumptuous middle. A sash or a belt can be an attractive styling touch, so long as the sash is relatively thin and is placed above the swell of the waist or below it, to defines the figure without impinging on it.

In this picture of the model sporting a more upmarket look, a sash creates a similarly attractive effect, riding high enough so that the waist is left free and unconstricted. The model's expression invigorates the image, her parted lips and predatory eyes generating a ravenous look. The curve under the chin and the fullness at the waist, blending with her hungry expression, create the sensual impression of a goddess who has greatly indulged herself, yet still craves more--much more.

Observe how different an effect the model achieves in the following image. This is one of her most captivating expressions, a look of longing, of desire--the allure heightened by the way in which she gently plays with her tresses. The outfit fits snugly against her figure, defining her every gorgeous curve, suggesting that she dressed in this manner precisely because she knew that the sight of her soft rondeur would make her irresistible. Both this, and the previous image, suggest the model's seductively greedy nature, but whereas the former shows her looking more aggressively rapacious, this one is more languishing and indolently appetitive.

On a smaller model, this top would hang in a loose and unattractive manner, but the Carisal goddess's figure fills it out and gives it shape, especially at the waist. The sleeveless design also shows off the round, full beauty of her naked arms, as white as marble, yet pink with health and vigor.

For a change of pace, here is another glimpse of the model's more playful side. The hand-in-the-hair pose is a winner every time, instantly communicating the model's flirtatious, coquettish nature. Her tresses curl attractively before her face, yet the soft rise of a slope toward the throat is still visible, making her utterly irresistible.

In this image, the model's face is positioned a tad closer to the camera, giving the viewer a good, long look at her gorgeous facial features. Her bone structure endows her countenance with feminine characteristics, but the fullness is what actually makes her visage beautiful, softening the contours and giving her an attractively fleshy look.

However, the model's softness and fullness in no way impinges on her ability to strike high-fashion poses--not the Top Model sort that minimize the body, but the dramatic kind, marked by darker expressions. In the following photo, the model adopts an editorial stance for a more casual item, but the subsequent pictures, below, show her striking related poses for more elegant items. The expressions in these types of images tend to be more extreme, less conventionally pretty, making it especially important for the model to be innately gorgeous. On an unattractive model, such expressions would come across as too harsh, but the Carsial goddess's beauty softens the effect and makes it beautiful.

Here the model adopts a more delicate look, a faux-surprised glance that renders her quite captivating. Lusciously proportioned models can look every bit as vulnerable and attractively helpless-seeming as their underweight rivals, as long as their faces and figures are sufficiently soft.

In this image, one of the most exciting in the campaign, the model looks almost cruel--irresistibly so. The picture discloses many thrillingly dark qualities: undisguised selfishness, naked greed, rapacious appetite. The visible curve under her chin, and the sumptuous waist that even this sculpted top cannot conceal, intimate that she has indulged herself lavishly, yet still remains unsatisfied. Anyone who thinks truly full-figured models cannot succeed at creating haughty looks to convey the expense and exclusiveness of "high" fashion is proven wrong by this picture.

The following image is a tad less dramatic, yet still highly effective. The way in which the model's hand rests below her neckline draws attention to her buxom curves. Even the model's forearms are full and round. The fuchsia colour complements her fair complexion and gives it an attractive hue, while the sight of her fair tresses wafting in the air is mesmerizing.

Most of the pictures in this campaign show the model with her hair down, but here she wears an elegant updo--one that is just as attractive a more relaxed style because it still displays the voluptuous volume of her tresses. This hair arrangement has a Classical quality, bringing to mind Helen of Troy--for surely, to be the loveliest woman of all time, the original Helen was at least as well-fed as this Carisal model. Notice the smooth, unbroken expanse of flesh at the neck area, her clavicle wholly submerged in soft fullness. Black though it is, the dress displays the alluring substantiality of her figure, the sheer sensual weight of her body, which appears very natural in its heavy contours. Observe how gently the belt presses against her midsection, producing a sensual swell above it. The pose is very convincing, with no suggestion of artifice.

Sideways glances are among the most effective modelling poses, and can be utilized in any number of ways. Note how different the qualities of this look are from the one above. As a rule, plus-size models should exhibit even longer tresses than this, but the Carisal goddess possesses just enough length for her hair to fall over her shoulders in a most becoming manner.

The last of what one might call the model's "high-fashion looks" shows her once again in vivid fuchsia, in a dress that, truly, only a plus-size model could wear effectively. On a thinner model, it would merely resemble a flat slab of fabric, but the model's buxom curves gives it shape where it needs it the most. Indeed, by not defining any other feature of her figure, only her bust, the dress indicates just how voluptuous the model really is, drawing attention to the curves of her upper body.

As noted earlier, seeing the model in a state of repose heightens her appeal considerably, for seated images indicate the alluring heaviness of her figure in a way that standing poses do not. In the following photo, she adopts a coy, fetching look, knowing that the fullness of her proportions augments her attractiveness. Her tresses look especially angelic here, flowing over her shoulder in big curls and waves. Her cheekbones give her visage shape, but the fullness in her face also endows her with plump cheeks. It is the combination of these two characteristics, rounded cheekbones and facial fullness, that makes her countenance so attractive--that, and the curve under her chin. Her arms look seductively round and untoned, filling her sleeves and showing fullness right down to the wrist.

The model's pose adds considerable visual interest to the following image, in which she exhibits a casual shirt. Her sumptuous figure endows even this garment with shape, especially at the midsection, where her waist sensually presses against the buttons.

Carisal's goddess does love her coquettish, flirtatious expressions, doesn't she? And rightly so, for she is quite irresistible. Again, one senses that, having acquired a fuller figure, she feels more pleasure in her own body than ever before, more confidence in her attractiveness. She knows that the extra weight has increased her appeal, and loves to test the effect of her bewitching beauty upon her admirers. This outfit is by no means the most attractive item in the Carisal collection, but one still senses the fullness around the model's waist. Her arms are as visibly round as those of Lillian Russell.

The model's well-fed beauty transforms the effect of even the most familiar poses. All models adopt hands-on-the-hips stances such as this as a default, but the Carsial goddess's arms are so round and shapely, and the slope toward her throat so soft and full, that even when she resorts to such a familiar pose, she achieves a more dramatically sensual effect than a faux-plus girl ever could.

Few of the outfits in the collection given any indication of the line's Spanish origins, but the following rustic-looking print immediately associates the garment with Iberian folk traditions. The model's face and eyes bring to mind the legendary Anita Ekberg.

While the fuchsia-purple colours of this outfit are contemporary, the complexity of the print, with its floral and paisley motifs, still suggests a touch of folklore. The design is not to our taste, but goodness knows that the model does more with it than anyone else could, adopting a dramatic and engaging look.

Indeed, many of the pieces in the Carisal collection display geometric prints that are alternately black and white, or colourful. Such prints are a matter of taste, of course, but the model makes every outfit attractive, every picture notable, thanks to her stunningly full-figured beauty. Observe the alluring curve under her chin.

The next garment exhibits another geometric print--and not a redeemable one, sad to say. But the design simply doesn't matter, as the model's beauty is so extraordinary that one forgets what she is wearing and focusses on her milky complexion, soft limbs, and intriguing expression--a head-down, lost-in-thought gaze that captures the imagination.

Here too the model overcomes the outlandish print of her dress with an overtly seductive demeanour that seizes the viewer's heart and makes him her instant slave, devoted to her every whim. Consider the pleasure that she so obviously takes in her appearance, and remember that this is coupled with an increasingly full-figured look. This goddess knows that she can eat whatever she likes, and as much as she likes, and the result will be even more beauty. All full-figured goddesses should feel this way about themselves.

The last of the seated images shows the model in a top with, thankfully, a more appealing print that the other items posted above. The hairstyle here is quite interesting, displaying a heavy, just-come-out-of-the-shower quality, freshly combed and still damp. Such "wet looks" are always winning styles.

The following casual outfit reminds one of warmup attire. But the model is just as gorgeous in this lounging-around-the-house look as she is in dressier apparel, her eyes-aside glance being especially appealing. One can imagine her relaxing at home in such clothing, liberated for a moment from her glamorous lifestyle.

A goddesses as full-figured as this can look alluring even in an outfit that one might not normally associate with seductiveness. Notice how the deep V neckline of this jacket draws the eye toward the model's plump decolletage. And observe how the model positions herself to focus the viewer's attention squarely on her buxom curves. Her eyes read the viewer intently, eager to see if her charms are having the desired effect. That is another quality that makes the Carisal goddess so captivating--the sense, in her images, that she craves the viewer's attention, feeding off of his desire, hungering for it as greedily as she hungers for rich delicacies.

The final image in the Carisal campaign is something of a departure. It shows the model with no makeup and in a supremely casual plaid shirt. Loose as it is, however, this shirt still suggests the luscious fullness around the model's waist, which visibly presses against the fabric.

We chose this image to complete the post because it follows up on a theme from the model's last campaign. In our post about Carisal's fall/winter 2009 promotion, we noted that many images suggested a narrative, with the model in the role of a movie star who escaped Hollywood, moved to the countryside, and developed a more robust appetite in the country air. This image continues that theme. She is a glamorous beauty who appears to have "let herself go" in the very best sense of the phrase, given in to her desires, and is enjoying her newfound freedom. She knows that she can indulge as much as she wishes, and not only still be beautiful, but even acquire more beauty in the process.

* * *

Whenever the public criticizes faux-plus models, industry professionals tend to ask, "What size of model do the people want?" Various recently plus-size campaigns provide the answer to this question: Kelsey Olson's promotion for LucieLu, Katherine Roll's prom and bridal shoots for the Formal Source, Lindsey Garbleman's swimwear campaign for Swimsuits For All, and so forth.

To that list we must now add this exemplary Carisal Fashion campaign. The model is visibly full-figured, yet undeniably gorgeous. The photography is excellent; the styling top notch. Even the clothing is, in some of its pieces, quite attractive, especially for a continental label.

Bravo to Carisal Fashion for producing so many size-positive and beautiful images. One wishes that more entities in plus-size fashion would follow suit.

The fashions are hit-and-miss for me (nice styling, though), but I won't criticize any company that features such an attractive and truly full-figured model. Bravo for the photography too. Carisal didn't try to hide the model's curves or airbrush them away, but showed them off without apology, as if the model were proud of her full features - as she should be.

The one way in which the previous Carisal campaign was better was that it took the model outdoors and showed her in pretty, natural locations. But for pure size-positive celebration, these images can't be beat.

I would love to see more American companies break the faux-plus mindset and feature curvier plus-size models. We have curvy girls on this side of the Atlantic (Kelsey, Katherine, Charlotte, etc.) who could look even more gorgeous, and truly full-figured.

I agree. The Carisal model isn't quite as beautiful as those goddesses, but amid all of the promotion of very thin models being falsely called "plus size," it's a distinct pleasure to see a model who is genuinely full-figured and photographed to look that way. I wish all plus-size models were as curvy as she is.
