A part of me is loathe to post about these things, because we all know that it just feeds the celebrity PR machine.

On the other hand, if a trace of visible curviness is now seen as being good for a celebrity's career, there's something agreeable about that. Both Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson seem to be capitalizing on it.

Interestingly, both of these celebrities have come up on the forum in the past. A few years ago, Jessica Simpson released a line of cosmetics that was called "Dessert Beauty," which was the original source of the famous line, "Sexy girls have dessert." One post about it is still on the forum, and there are probably some graphics from the line's ads still available on the Web.

And Britney Spears's name came up in a post by plus-size model Gabrielle Taber, who wrote a great piece about seeing a beautiful, happy, popular, size-16 Britney lookalike one day. This was very size positive:

Well, both of these celebrities have been in the news for looking a teeny bit curvier. Britney released the un-airbrushed versions of her ads for a company called Candie's. I like the following comparison because the more attractive, non-airbrushed version is on the right. Many papers have run the comparison the other way, with "before" and "after" tags, which make the graphics look disagreeably like diet ads:

She's very thin in both, but at least in the picture on the right she appears more natural, and frankly far sexier. It reminds me of the famous Betty Grable poster from WWII.

Jessica Simpson, on the other hand, appeared at an event yesterday looking a tad curvier. This is the best that she's looked since her denim photos (http://www.judgmentofparis.com/board/showthread.php?t=1473) came out a while back.

No, not plus-size, unfortunately, but curvier and healthier, and therefore more attractive, than most Hollywood twigs.

The text of the articles about Jessica has been negative, so I won't bother linking any. But bravo to her for allowing herself to look more naturally shapely than the emaciated Hollywood standard.
