For a variety of reasons, we are inclined to be cautious about topics related to size-oriented activism. However, for those who are not already aware of this event, May 6th is the annual date of "International No-Diet Day." Started in 1992 by a recovering anorexic, the event encourages women to stop needlessly starving themselves, and to learn to enjoy food and life, once again.
We have but one reservation about this commendable celebration, and that is its singularity. After all, every day should be a No-Diet Day. But for those individuals who are still punishing themselves by self-deprivation for the supposed "crime" of being curvaceously beautiful, perhaps enjoying a day of freedom may help them kick the habit altogether. As Hamlet tells us,

Refrain tonight
And that shall lend a kind of easiness
To the next abstinence, the next more easy. (III.iv.167-69)

The link below takes you to a site describing the event and its origins, including a wonderful page titled, "Top Ten Reasons to Give Up Dieting."
Tomi (Ford 12+, size 14) looking delectable in Figure magazine:

- ''Top Ten Reasons to Give Up Dieting''
