View Full Version : Lane Bryant's Las Vegas runway show
22nd February 2011, 14:22
So as everyone has probably heard, Lane Bryant staged its first major fashion show since 2003 in Las Vegas over the weekend, and as this video from Entertainment Tonight shows, it turned out to be a terrific show.
The models are fuller figured than they were in the 2000-2002 Cacique events, and about the size that the were in the last staging, from 2003, starting at 12/14 and going up to a 16ish. I still wish they were a bit fuller-figured, but it's definitely an improvement over, say, their 2002 outing.
The use of plush-toy props was a fantastic idea, as it gave the girls a girlish, feminine quality.
Lots of very pretty looks too.

The most beautiful model is undoubtedly Lauren Holmes, who appears at 0.33 and especially at 0.58, in a yellow bustier and blue skirt that is the most attractive look in the show. Other participants include Candice Huffine, Ashley Graham, Ivana Fields, Sarah Slick, and others.
I do wish that there had been some Judgment of Paris favourites as well, though, like Kelsey Olson and others.
Still, a great video, and obviously a terrific show, very well styled, and with some genius props.
There are many models in the industry who would be bona fide timeless goddesses if only they were a tad fuller-figured, and blonde beauty Lauren from Wilhelmina is firmly at the top of that list.
Lauren is to this 2011 Lane Bryant presentation what Lara Johnson was to the 2000-2003 events--the most beautiful model in the show, but one who would be even more stunning at a slightly fuller size.
To Lauren's credit, though, she does have a softer, most visibly full physique than Lara ever did. In this capture, she also exhibits a steamy, alluring expression.

No question that this ensemble was the most beautiful item in the video. Yellow is such a pleasing, natural colour for lingerie, and gives the model a more wholesome sensuality than colours like red or black. The model's long, blonde tresses are enchanting, and the pairing of the yellow piece with a turquoise skirt creates an idyllically tropical colour combination.

Lauren's gorgeous physique is soft and untoned, creating a intensely seductive, feminine look, and her relaxed stance accentuates her luscious curves.

In Lauren's other look in the video, she may be more covered up, but the lighting effectively captures the fairness of her complexion, as she shows off her pretty smile, her winsome manner, and of course, those fairy-tale golden tresses.

Altogether, the models in the show must be commended for at least exhibiting traces of softness in their figures. Candice Huffine shows curves along her side as she performs a marvellous runway turn, seemingly tearing open her blouse to display her physique.

This model also displays a curvaceous, softly untoned midsection that is pleasing to view.

Even Ashley Graham exhibits a hint of curves along her side,

as well as a slight swell around her middle, as seen here in this profile view.

In one screenshot, Candice exhibits a modicum of appealing fullness in her arms. Like Lauren, Candice would be a significant beauty at a somewhat larger size.

Among the high points of the video are the glimpses of the vixens carrying their adorable plush familiars. Teddy bears would have been oh-so-sweet as well, but who can resist this little tiger with the delightfully quizzical look in its eyes, in the arms of Ivana Fields?

Whoever came up with the concept of adding plush animals as props was truly inspired.

These fluffy accessories make the models seem more innocent and girlish. The jungle-cat choice was undoubtedly adopted to coordinate with the animal-print lingerie. On their own, animal prints can come off as a tad extreme, so the idea of softening the effect with plush toys was a stroke of genius.

For another example of excellent styling, note the tropical-themed blossom in the hair--an extra dash of femininity made all the prettier by the way in which the model's tresses flow around her as she does her catwalk turn.

And finally, although the plush animals were on the whole more adorable than the live pets, this look deserves a nod for the wonderfully summery, feminine hat.

All in all, this was clearly an exemplary runway show. True, the absence of everyone's favourite Judgment of Paris icons is regrettable. (The idea of Kelsey with a plush toy is too dreamy for words.) And if all of the models had been one size fuller (the 12/14s becoming 14/16s, and so forth), the show would have been even more sensual and boldly size-positive. But with top-notch styling, wholesome sensuality, and fine runway performances from the models, it shows a notable improvement over the Lane Bryant catwalk extravaganzas of the early 2000s.
We look forward to future endeavours in a similar vein from Lane Bryant.

Here's the segment that actually aired on Entertainment Tonight this evening:

I have to say, I prefer the extended runway sequence that was initially posted in this thread. This segment shows what is apparently Lane Bryant's new commercial, but it doesn't look nearly as interesting as last year's "Not What Mom Had In Mind" TV spot. This one just has Ashley Graham showing off a few looks in what appears to be a bare studio setting. At least last year's commercial had a theme, and was shot in a beautiful apartment/bedroom set. The camerawork in last year's ad was more stylish too; it really looked like a Victoria's Secret ad. This one is too basic.
Also, the clip only has a few short glimpses of the runway show. I would have liked to have seen more of that Las Vegas event. It looked like it was a great show.

Here's a video from Lane Bryant itself with some preview clips of the show.
The opening repeats the TV commercial from last year, but if you fast forward to 0:54, you'll see where the runway portion begins.

Lauren appears at 1.29 and following. I took a few screen grabs. The first shot shows how the runway looked from the other angle.
A beautiful, serene headshot.
She looks like a basket of golden fruit. It's a gorgeous look.
While her face is lovely, I hope that the final LB video will show more of the figure. After all, as the first video showed, though Lauren is a shade less than plus-size, she does have a soft and sensual waist. Such gorgeous hair too, reminiscent of Kelsey Olson.
A smile as she turns. Lane Bryant has always done great lingerie in natural colours.
At least there's a glimpse of slight curves along her back.
If the show had featured a host of Judgment of Paris favourites, it would have been an event for the ages. As it is, thought, there's a lot to like in the lighting, the styling, the wardrobe, and in the figures of some of the models.

It's an absolutely lovely show, and dare I say it, very sexy, but with more oomph than the normal, forced sexiness of Victoria's Secret shows! It seems that plus-size models have a naturally sensual way of moving and wonderful body consciousness. Well done to Lane Bryant as well as all the models!

The first video in this thread, posted by Chad, is definitely the best so far, showing full-length views of the girls and exhibiting their soft physiques.
It is interesting to compare this to the historic, first-ever Cacique runway event in 2000,
and to the 2002 presentation:
In every way, the 2011 incarnation is superior. Some of the models in Las Vegas are still a size smaller than one wishes, but they are commendably fuller than the models were in the 2000 and 2002 shows, where faux-plus frames sadly dominated. More importantly, the physiques of many of the models in 2011 look softer and more natural. The girls in the previous shows, especially in 2002, were too unappealingly "toned."
We can probably thank the positive influence of FFFWeek for these favourable developments, in showing the industry that bigger girls look even better on the catwalk than faux-plus models.
Also, I love the playfulness of the show, from the plush animals to the warm smiles on the girls faces. Unlike minus-size models, who always look so glum on the runway, and whose depressing facial expressions seem to mirror their morose unhappiness at starvation, the models in the Las Vegas show look happy and full of life, genuinely delighted in their own bodies and overjoyed to be on the catwalk.
I loved the styling, the colours, the lighting, and the plush props. If there had been a few size 18s and a few Judgment of Paris favourites, the show would have been even more perfect. I hope that Lane Bryant will post a complete video at some point, and that, like the ET video, it will predominately offer full-length shots of the girls, thus celebrating their physiques.
