View Full Version : FWPS July 2011, with Mayara Russi

16th July 2011, 21:38
Here they are - the very first photos of luscious size-22 goddess Mayara Russi at Fashion Weekend Plus Size, from the runway show yesterday.

These pictures show her behind the scenes, but she looks stunning, with her opulent 44-43-53 figure. The top acknowledges the sumptuous fullness of her waist, and her brunette tresses are rich and luxuriant.

I can't wait to see photos from the runway show itself, but this triptych is a fine teaser.

At last, I've found a few images of Mayara on the catwalk at the Fashion Weekend Plus Size runway show yesterday.

She looks gorgeous in a floral sleeveless top (bravo!), and in white pants that show off her curvaceous 53" hips.

Here's a second image of the same look. In last season's FWPS she wore her hair up for numerous shows, so I'm glad that she kept her tresses long and loose for this show.

Mayara is a stunning goddess, and one of the most curvaceous working models in the world. I wish that we had a plus-size model with her beauty and curves here in North America. She is a tribute to the excellence of the Brazilian plus-size fashion industry.

Those images are lovely, but it's pictures like these that make FWPS the most size-positive event in the world and confirm Mayara Russi to be the most lusciously proportioned model there is.

At the second that Hannah posted, I found this unbelievably exciting image of Mayara walking for Dardak jeans. Not only does the denim accentuate her womanly hips, but the close-fitting T-shirt lovingly defines the soft curves around her middle.

I also found several stunning pictures of Mayara at a blogger's site (http://www.meuemagrecimento.com/2011/07/dia-feliz.html) . This next photo will surely take the crown as the most size-celebratory picture of the event - an adoring visualization of Miss Russi's opulent waist and even the luscious curve under her chin.

She also looks incredibly pretty in this picture, with a blossom in her hair. The belted top suggests the richness of her midsection, while her face looks very soft and full.

Mayara looks even more gorgeous in the images from this edition of FWPS than in any previous incarnation of the show. She defines the word "goddess."

Another source (http://ego.globo.com/Gente/Fotos/0,,GF87138-9801,00-SUZY+REGO+CHEINHA+ESTRELA+DESFILE+DE+MODA+GG+EM+SAO+PAULO.html#fotogaleria=1) yields a full cast photo of the event.

Mayara is prominently placed in the centre of the frame, in grey; but she would stand out in any circumstances, thanks to her distinctively full-figured beauty.

I wish she could join Katherine, Kelsey, and Lindsey on the runway at the next FFFWeek!

More images of Mayara from Fashion Weekend Plus Size have turned up today, including this lovely photo of Miss Russi being made up before the show, courtesy of a Brazilian blog (http://fabirangel.blogspot.com/2011/07/fashion-weekend-plus-size-4-edicao_4010.html)

I also stumbled across this fun picture from backstage.

The richest rewards come from a Flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/natalymunhoz/) photostream, which features many images of the runway show, including Mayara in her white slacks:

This is the most modellesque photo I've seen yet, with Mayara showing a steamy look in her eyes. Even the lighting is evocative. She's gorgeous.

The next three photos show the runway parade of all of the models at the Dardak show. Mayara displays a lusciously full waist, and she clearly loves the adoration of the crowd.

Here's the direct link to the full-size version of the moody photo shown above. Stunningly beautiful.

I'm pleased to say that I have a variety of items to share in this thread.

For starters, I found the first video footage of the show. Mayara speaks at 1:19, and I think this is the first time I've heard her voice. Very nice! It only shows her backstage, though, while what I'm really hoping for it footage of her on the runway.

<iframe width="690" height="419" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="http://videos.r7.com/r7/service/video/playervideo.html?idMedia=4e24d93b3d14613cbb081fe2&idCategory=211&embedded=true"></iframe>

Next, I found a makeup tutorial focussing on Mayara's look at FWPS.

The initial photo is quite lovely, as it shows a bit of Miss Russi's opulent figure.

The final look is very glamorous. Mayara has a rich fullness in her face, which makes her extremely beautiful.

The next page shows an image of Mayara being interviewed backstage prior to the show, and identifies her as the "highlight" of the event (which she certainly was). I'll link to it in its Google-translated form.

The above page links to a brief interview with Mayara, also conducted backstage at FWPS.

It states that Mayara walked the runway for four labels:

Couro Cru
Claudia Nazario

We've seen three of her outfits in this thread. I wonder what her fourth outfit looked like? I can't wait to see!

The interview also notes that the models at FWPS came in sizes "46, 48, 50, 52..." (or U.S. sizes "16, 18, 20, 22..."). That phrase is so reminiscent of MODE's famous size tag, but specifies considerably fuller sizes. How wonderful that in Brazil, plus-size models begin at a size 16 and progress upwards from there. It is also gratifying to consider that Mayara, the "highlight" of the show, is at the curviest end of that spectrum, at a size 22.

19th July 2011, 04:52
The above interview printed a small mistake. It phonetically transcribed the name of the third designer for whom Mayara walked the runway, but in fact, the name of this label is not "Couro Cru" but Korukru. I know, because this (http://contextofashion.blogspot.com/2011/07/plus-size-mostra-que-moda-e-para-todas.html) Brazilian blog identifies the brand by name. It also supplies one of the most gorgeous images yet of Mayara at FWPS (the second photograph of her in this look). I adore the blossom in her hair and the romantic way in which her tresses are arranged. Lovely expression too.

This means that we have identified three of the looks that Mayara wore on the runway.

Another blog (http://www.sacadafashion.com.br/blog/fashion-weekend-plus-size-2/) about FWPS features Mayara in her behind-the-scenes grey top (could this actually be the missing fourth look?), as well as in her Milanina ensemble. This is when Mayara looks most gorgeous and most subversive -- when her full, rounded waist is attractively defined and her hair flows loosely over her shoulders.

Furthermore, a significant Brazilian fashion publication (http://mdemulher.abril.com.br/moda/fotos/tamanho-gg/veja-selecao-looks-verao-2012-passarela-fashion-weekend-plus-size-633930.shtml#30) features this boldly confident pose from Mayara in her Milanina oufit.

I hope that Mayara's stunning beauty and career success will encourage the U.S. plus-size industry to embrace models in sizes 18, 20, 22...

Here, at last, is what everyone has been waiting for: a bona fide video interview with Mayara at FWPS, including footage of this gorgeous model on the runway.

The program appears to be the Brazilian equivalent of Entertainment Tonight. It intercuts the interview chat with shots of Mayara walking the catwalk in her Dardak outfit, which shows off her curvy waist so boldly.

Much of the publicity that Mayara gets has to do with her ostensible resemblance to some famous Brazilian actress - famous in Brazil, anyway. The video shows numerous images of the actress and Mayara side by side; but honestly, I don't see the resemblance at all. I think Mayara is much more attractive. But hey - if this is helping her gain fans in Brazil, so be it.

She clearly has a fantastic time on the catwalk and a great runway presence. Gorgeous.

19th July 2011, 23:27
I've been doing a little more searching myself and have found a number of further gorgeous images of Mayara in this show.

Thanks to this (http://mdemulher.abril.com.br/blogs/milu/acessorios/milu-no-fwps-grife-de-acessorios-cria-colecao-gg-com-muita-cor-e-originalidade/) prominent Brazilian source, we finally get to see Mayara's full-length Korukru look, which, as it turns out, bares her full, gorgeous legs. This is definitely the prettiest and most feminine look that she wore on the runway, of the three that have been shown so far.

Over at the blog (http://mulherao.wordpress.com/2011/07/19/o-make-e-o-cabelo-da-quarta-edicao-do-fashion-weekend-plus-size/) of Renata Poskus Vaz, the founder of FWPS, one finds this beautiful headshot of Mayara.

Courtesy of this (http://ameseuespelho.wordpress.com/2011/07/19/fashion-weekend-plus-size/) blog comes a profile view of Mayara in her Milanina look.

And most exotic of all, a Vietnamese publication (http://hanoilive.com/mac-gi/dan-mau-beo-khoe-so-do-bu-day-bat-ngo.html) called Hanoi Live has released this boldly celebratory image of Mayara's full, curvy waist, in her Dardak outfit.

20th July 2011, 13:55
Two more images of Mayara in this show can be found here (http://grandesmulheres.com/weblog/?p=4711). I had no idea that Brazil had so many plus-size-fashion web logs! The industry is remarkably populous in South America.

Here's Mayara walking the runway for Milanina,

and for Dardak:

I keep hoping for more images of her beautiful Korukru outfit, and for someone, somewhere to post pictures from the Claudia Nazario segment, so that we can finally get to see her fourth look.

22nd July 2011, 04:03
Here's a new bit of FWPS publicity featuring Mayara at 2:54 looking sensually alluring. She also says a few words to the interviewer.

<object width="600" height="480"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/FnLPZv4BgeI?fs=1&amp; hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/FnLPZv4BgeI?fs=1&amp; hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="600" height="480"></embed></object>

Oh, for some subtitles! Mayara truly is gorgeous and has a stunning figure.

22nd July 2011, 13:32
That is a fun, inspiring, and encouraging video. Those women are lovely! Yay, I'm going to go dress up.

23rd July 2011, 13:05
I want to thank everyone here for posting these images of Mayara. She is truly beautiful, and represents plus size goddesses amazingly well. I love her confidence. Mayara displays all the charms that a full-figured woman can possess.

I love the way she looks in the Dardak outfit. Wow, her feminine curves are in full view!

Once again, it is such a pleasure to visit this site, where plus-size beauty is celebrated.

That is a fun, inspiring, and encouraging video. Those women are lovely! Yay, I'm going to go dress up.
So true, Bethia! I find Mayara very inspiring. With her genuinely curvy figure -- which she obviously loves -- she communicates a sense of freedom, of real body love.

I did a little scouting of my own and turned up a couple of new pictures that haven't been posted yet. This one shows her curvy waist and even the roundness at her abdomen. Her denim capris fit her very snugly. She is the embodiment of size celebration.

Also, another blogger has posted a photo of Mayara walking for Milaninia.

26th July 2011, 14:47
The Brazilian site Mdemulher, which is apparently quite prestigious, has a brief new interview with Mayara in which she discusses her fashion choices.

It comes with a stunning full-length image of Mayara in her Korukru look, which was definitely the most interesting outfit that she wore at FWPS. The picture to the right of it is a tear from her Kaue Modas campaign from earlier this year.

Notice right at the top of the article, it refers to the model as "top plus size Mayara Russi." It's endlessly exciting to think of the "top plus size" model anywhere in the world being a size 22 - and looking it, as Mayara clearly does. She's fantastic, and an example for the rest of the world's plus-size markets to follow.

28th July 2011, 03:23
Some more items to share, from the seemingly inexhaustible supply of Brazilian blogs discussing FWPS. (I'm beginning to think that plus-size fashion gets more attention in South America than inNorth America.)

First, this absolutely stunning image of Mayara which I found on Flickr. I love the detail of how her voluptuous curves have pulled open the top button and are straining the second.

Now, here's a first -- a Brazilian blog writing about FWPS in English.

The info isn't that notable, but it does come with a few nice -- if terribly small -- pictures. Mayara in her Korukru outfit is third from the left.

Second from the left here, walking for Daradak.

The post concludes with a radiantly beautiful image of Mayara walking for Milanina.

And third, Milanina itself has a blog post (http://blogmilanina.wordpress.com/2011/07/28/tendencia-fwps-floral-e-branco-total/) about its own runway show at FWPS. Naturally, it opens with a shot of Mayara.

We need size-22 models in the U.S.!

2nd August 2011, 04:49
In the midst of all of the publicity that Fashion Weekend Plus Size has achieved on this forum, thanks especially to Mayara, I was pleased to see an AFP news report in English about the event. It has been republished in many different news sources and even made it to Yahoo news.

It comes with a picture of Mayara which unfortunately cuts off her waist, but she definitely deserves to be represented.

The other pictured model has an attractive figure too, legitimately and visibly full-figured. These images will be a welcome relief to many U.S. and European readers, who will finally get to see actual plus-size models instead of the faux-plus types to which they're usually subjected.

The article itself gives the background of FWPS. I found this comment especially important:

"'Fashion' was founded by aesthetics that are not the same as 'plus fashion.' But, thank God, there are professionals who are adapting for us [full-figured] women," said Thalita Arruda, the 23-year-old creator of the blog "Tamanho GG" (XL size).

Under this new standard, 10 Brazilian brands specializing in sizes 10 and up presented their new collections for next season at the fourth edition of Plus Size Fashion Week.
This indicates that in Brazil, they understand that there is a clear divide between the aesthetics of regular "fashion" and "plus-size fashion." This understanding obviously helps them recognize that there must be a distinct difference between plus-size models and minus-size models; that plus-size models are not supposed to be so skinny as to almost look like straight-size models. Plus-size models are supposed to represent the full-figured women that regular fashion excludes, and they cannot do this if they still look underweight. Plus-size models must embody aesthetics that are "not the same" as skinny-worshipping straight-size fashion - aesthetics that celebrate visible curves and fullness.

Brazil understands this; the North American and European and Australian industries, all too often, do not. It's high time for the rest of the world to learn from Brazil's example.

3rd August 2011, 02:35
Even two weeks later, new images of Mayara at FWPS continue to surface. Here she is in her Korukru outfit- definitely the most attractive and fashionable look that she wore on the runway.

The picture shows the roundness of her waist and arms, and the rich fullness in her face. She is that rarest of beauties- a true plus-size model.

8th August 2011, 19:04
Korukru has now posted a slideshow on Facebook of its FWPS runway show. I wish they had released a video, but at least this slideshow features many new images of Mayara Russi looking gorgeous in her Korukru outfit.

You can fast forward to 3:24 to see Mayara's photos.

<object width="690" height="463"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><param name="movie" value="http://www.facebook.com/v/216883425028897"><embed src="http://www.facebook.com/v/216883425028897" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="690" height="463"></embed></object><br />

That, THAT is the figure of a true plus-size model, and the standard that the industry should be following.

At long last, a video of one of the three shows in which Mayara walked at FWPS has emerged, and sure enough, Miss Russi looks even more luscious and gorgeous in living motion than in the still photos from FWPS.

Better still, the video is of the Korukru show, which had her looking most feminine, with her voluptuous hairstyle and the flower in her tresses.

In this video, Mayara closes the show, emerging at 4:36, then again during the final parade of the models at 5:44, as well as in a couple of brief moments during the "making of" portion at the end of the video. Actually, some of the other models in the show are quite curvy and beautiful too, but Mayara, naturally, outshines them all.

<object width="690" height="547"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/a8oS2esec7U?fs=1&amp; hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/a8oS2esec7U?fs=1&amp; hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="690" height="547"></embed></object>

Something else that's very interesting about the video is that, as the footage illustrates, the show was originally accompanied by an appalling rock band. But the video has replaced their raucous audio with the delightful "Pique Dame" overture by the Austrian composer Franz von Suppé, in a performance by the Berlin Philharmonic under the baton of the legendary conductor Herbert von Karajan. It's entertaining to see the rock musicians trying to play their terrible sounds, while instead beautiful music pours forth.

I think the lively classical music enhances the appeal of the show. The most familiar theme of the overture plays at 3:37, then again at 7:29, and it's a lot of fun. Also, there is a quieter melody that plays during the models' ensemble runway turn at the end of the catwalk show, and this lyrical theme underscores the femininity of the models. Altogether a beautiful video.

26th September 2011, 06:22
Imagine, several months later and new material from the latest edition of Fashion Weekend Plus Size is still being discovered.

I just turned up a video (a bit shaky, but still wonderful) of the Milanina runway show from FWPS. Now footage of two of Mayara's three runway walks has been unearthed. All that's missing is the Dardak show.

<object width="600" height="480"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/J9B0bGsanEQ?fs=1&amp; hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/J9B0bGsanEQ?fs=1&amp; hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="600" height="480"></embed></object>

Mayara appears at 3:02 in the video, and she looks fantastic. It's amazing to see how much confidence and self-assurance she exudes when she walks. She moves her opulent body very gracefully and with real energy, in a way that would be the envy of any catwalk waif. She clearly loves being the focus of attention, and absolutely commands the room.

She appears once more in the final parade of all of the models at 10:54 in the video, again looking fantastic.
