Earlier today, the Australian department store Myer staged a plus-size fashion show to open the Sydney Fashion Festival. From the pictures I've seen, the show wasn't quite as exciting as Full-Figured Fashion Week (NY) or Fashion Weekend Plus Size (Brazil), which are the gold standard in plus-size runway shows. Myer fielded altogether too many faux-plus models, and alas, I don't think that either Hayley B. or Alexandra Newton participated.

However, a few of the models were curvy and attractive. Here are two picture galleries that I've found so far:

This girl, I believe, was a member of the general public who was a finalist in Myer's model search, prior to the event. Gorgeous figure, with soft, full limbs, a fair complexion, and even a curve under the chin.

Here she is with another model:

Sakina Czubowski participated, which is a pleasure to see. Sakina absolutely stole the spotlight at City Chic's fashion show in Melbourne last season.

I find this image rather meaningful- a number of young curvy girls, budding fashionistas, being inspired by the well-fed body that they're seeing on the runway and realizing that they do not need to starve themselves, but can keep their curves and dress stylishly.

It's wonderful to see a plus-size runway show opening a major fashion week, and although I would have loved to have seen some Judgment of Paris favourites on the catwalk- and fuller-figured models all around- at least a few of the girls were genuinely curvaceous. Bravo.

I found a few more photos of that attractive model. If she was chosen from a model search, then it demonstrates that sometimes, such endeavours actually can be of some benefit in finding curvier talent.

She does have gorgeous arms and shapely legs.

Here she is in a second outfit, showing womanly proportions.

Sakina in a second outfit:

Unless I'm mistaken, this is Kate Hislop, also from Sakina's agency, BGM Models.

I could be wrong, but I believe that the blonde model might be the girl second from the right in this photo of the Myer model-search finalists:

At any rate, here are a few more shots of her on the runway.

Australia's Channel Ten posted a brief news report about Myer's plus-size runway show. I was pleased to see that the curvy blonde whom others have mentioned in this thread features prominently in the footage. The clip shows her emerging at 0.05 and then offers a close-up of her face at 0.16. Not bad for a 24-second video. Channel Ten clearly wanted to show actual plus-looking bodies in a report about a plus-size runway show.

<object width="690" height="418"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/PM0cZtV1Qx4?fs=1&amp; hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PM0cZtV1Qx4?fs=1&amp; hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="690" height="418"></embed></object>

Channel Ten also posted a video of what I can only describe as raw footage of the show -- and I do mean raw. It's an interesting view of the event, although, at 8 minutes in length, they might as well have simply posted the whole show, start to finish. Still, the video records much of the show. All three of the blonde's looks get air time, first at 0.54, then at 5.49, and finally at 6.54. The video also includes footage of Kate and Sakina at 4:30ff.

<object width="690" height="418"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QUB8iZc9svI?fs=1&amp; hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QUB8iZc9svI?fs=1&amp; hl=en_US&amp;rel=0&amp;color1=0x3a3a3a&amp;color2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="690" height="418"></embed></object>

The show succeeded in its intentions, to be sure, but FFFWeek and FWPS really are more exciting. Plus-specific events always seem to have an extra something that individual runway shows that are part of "regular" fashion weeks do not.

And I agree that there was a bit of a missed opportunity here. If the show had included Australian goddesses like Sophie Sheppard, Hayley B., and Alexandra Newton, the atmosphere would have been electric. What a show that could have been.

This video is much shorter, and I can only link to it, not embed it, but Australia's Channel Nine also has a brief video showing raw footage of the Myer runway show:

Everyone's favourite blonde shows up twice, once at 0.18 and once at 0.31, looking luscious, well-fed, and curvy. In a 52-second video, two showings is an impressive number. Although the event had many faux-plus models, I applaud the Australian media for highlighting the few fuller-figured girls in the show, particularly this pretty model.
