View Full Version : Hollie Lawing: The ingenue
In a post that appeared on this forum a while ago, we discussed Guess model Sarah Mutch (who was, at the time, represented by several of Ford's 12+ divisions) and lamented (a) the fact that Miss Mutch was not fuller-figured, and (b) the absence of a genuinely curvaceous model with a similar look. Such an absence constituted a real "missed opportunity" for plus-size modelling, we observed, because models with this very particular kind of ingenue look are instrumental in defining society's view of beauty.

Well, we recently received several new images of Hollie Lawing which suggest that she could be the model to fill that lacuna--if fate permits.

We usually avoid posting non-professional or candid images here, but we are prepared to make an exception, in this case.

Miss Lawing, you may recall, was the popular winner of last year's Ford/Lane Bryant model search. She receiving the biggest portion of the 22,000+ votes that readers cast to decide this contest, earing acclaim not only for being the most curvaceous of the contests, but also for being the most obviously attractive.

And these new images make it all the more regrettable that she did not take the agency prize as well.

First, here is a closer look at the full-length image of Hollie that Lane Bryant provided for the contest:

It shows us a number of things--great stance, gorgeous masses of dark hair, shapely arms. But if anything, Miss Lawing's look has improved dramatically since then.

Here is a more recent "studio" portrait, and whatever the merits of studio photography, it shows that Hollie possesses a highly cinematic look, with prominent cheekbones and round facial features. Lovely faraway expression, too.

Next we have a shot of Miss Lawing in "career" attire, captured on the streets of New York. We seldom post images of career-wear here, but the short skirt and vibrant pink colour of the outfit make it a more agreeable image of this type than most. But really, it is Hollie's youthful beauty that sells the look:

Note the exquisite symmetry of Hollie's profile. Even though she has a particular affinity for wilder expressions, she possess the timeless qualities of a classical beauty, which her serene expression in this image underscores.

For a change of pace, here is a glimpse of Miss Lawing in her native Georgia. This image was part of the series of photographs that Hollie originally submitted to Lane Bryant, and which earner her a place among the five finalists.

This image demonstrates her all-important ability to create expressions of surpassing self-confidence. The rich fullness of her facial features, and her abundant tresses, complete the look of a bona fide goddess.

But for the piece de resistance, here are three candids of Hollie during a recent cruise vacation which most emphatically testify to her Guess-model qualities.

This is Miss Lawing in her natural element, creating images of steamy sensuality of the kind that are still quite rare in plus-size modelling--but need not be.

As these photographs demonstrate, a size-18ish model with the right look can easily surpass even the most proficient of straight-size models in projecting this kind of wild allure.

Let us hope that the fate holds open the door of possibility for Hollie. She has the potential to help take plus-size modelling to the next level--when the myth that full-figured women are beautiful despite their generous proportions is replaced by the awareness that they are beautiful because of their opulent attractions.
