Sixth Anniversary: The New Femininity

As of tonight, this Web site marks its sixth year online. And we have decided to celebrate the occasion with the debut of a very different kind of gallery.

Back in 1998, when this site was launched, there was little to say about plus-size fashion. We celebrated the intrinsic beauty of plus-size models, but their wardrobe left much to be desired. If you peruse the early Liis galleries, you will see that many of the outfits are utterly shapeless. In those days, we often cropped images of models at the neck, simply because their figures were buried under yards of heavy fabric.

But the "big news" of 2004 has been the introduction of the New Femininity in straight-size fashion, and how it has spilled over into the plus-size modelling world. Now--finally--there is something worth talking about in full-figured apparel. At last, in some instances, the beauty of the models' clothing matches the beauty of the models themselves.

To celebrate this wonderful development, and to pay tribute to the craft of the fashion stylists whose work (as we learned in our interview with Samantha Weston) is integral to bringing timeless feminine beauty to life, we have created a kind of "styling gallery," which you can view at the URL linked below.

We regret that a number of the models featured on this page fall into the "faux-plus" category. If we had images of Shannon Marie or Megan Garcia in similar wardrobe, we would use them instead. However, in this one instance, the focus should be on the wardrobe at least as much as it is on the models who are presenting it.

We also regret that we know the names of none of the stylists who put these gorgeous ensembles together, apart from Ms. Weston herself. But a proper tribute to the art of the stylists is long overdue, and today, it is our pleasure and privilege to give them one.
