Default Silver and gold

With the continued dearth of plus-size fashion magazines, apart from Figure, it is especially welcome to see full-figured models creating beautiful test images. By sharing such images, plus-size models can offer voluptuous vixens the kind of visual inspiration that the curve-o-phobic fashion glossies give to their underweight rivals.

Here are two pairs of test photographs that struck us as quite remarkable.

In fact, the following image--a new headshot featuring Ford model Anjie (size 14, and an agreeable 5'8)--completely took our breath away, the moment that we saw it. Has any photograph ever shown a model looking more angelic than Anjie does here? Her skin is so fair, that it almost seems translucent, with just a whisper of colour at her cheeks. Her blonde tresses are arranged in romantic waves, and cascade freely over her shoulders. The model's graceful pose exhibits the soft fullness of her arms, and her expression is direct, but gentle rather than aggressive.

The stylist deserves great credit for selecting a perfect outfit, one which harmoniously compliments the cherubic look. The white dress (sleeveless, of course) is radiant with reflected light, giving it an almost ethereal quality. The large rounded bracelets draw attention to the model's curvaceous arm. The nail polish appears to be either nude, or the most delicate pink.

The result is a masterpiece of visual softness.

Another standout from this test series is the following image. If the above photograph was celestial, this one is more earthbound, while still exhibiting angelic touches. The model's skin is equally fair here, the romantic tresses again rich and luxurious. The dress is perfectly fitted, showing off the model's figure especially well, and abbreviated enough that it frames her shapely limbs. The pose is demure, yet also a tad suggestive. The context is urban, but those red flowers add just the right touch of colour and poetry, in keeping with the model's romantic hairstyle.

Next, we have two image featuring Yanderis (Dorothy Combs Models, size 14). The images show her with the kind of golden skin tone that one often associates with jewellery ads. Appropriately, the model's expression imparts a sense of elegance, but also a degree of sensuality. The viewer cannot help but marvel at Yanderis's gorgeous facial features, and at those utterly extraordinary eyes--perhaps the loveliest eyes of any model in the industry.

Yanderis is well known for sunny, commercial images in which she flashes life-affirming smiles, so her refined expressions in these images testify to her range and versatility. She emphatically deserves to be seen more often.

Images as stunning as these suggest the kind of editorials, advertisements, etc. that plus-size models could be creating, if only there were more opportunities available to them. Hopefully, those opportunities will become more plentiful in the near future. In time, the fashion industry will be compelled to acknowledge that from clothing, to accessories, to cosmetics, to jewellery, and so forth, full-figured femme fatales can be even more effective in creating aspirational ideals of beauty than the androgynous waifs who currently populate the mass media.

And as images of plus-size beauty proliferate, the message of size celebration will spread with them . . .
