Default Katherine Roll: Bancroft Bridals

An old saying maintains that all modelling is local, and while in this day and age models do jet around the country for certain clients, they still book a great deal of work for local clients in their immediate vicinity. One never knows how many regional promotions fans never get to see, even from their favourite models, because such local endeavours seldom receive the attention that nationwide campaigns attract.

As a case in point, Katherine Roll, the shining star of the MSA agency's plus-size division, may be represented in New York, but she also works for clients in her home territory in Connecticut. Since Katherine's avid fans are always clamouring to see more of their favourite model, we are delighted to have a a few behind-the-scenes pictures to share from one such local booking.

First, though, we simply must spotlight this utterly breathtaking headshot of Miss Roll--one of the loveliest photographs that we have ever seen. Never before has Katherine explored emotional territory such as this, adopting a dreamy, faraway look that is the essence of soft femininity. This is also one of the most enchanting hairstyles that she has ever worn, with her golden tresses flowing in gentle waves, as if caressing her angelic face. Observe the harmonious union of very different hues in her countenance--a deep, blood-red lip colour that is passionate and mature, speaking of dangerous desires, yet eyes of a rich China blue that convey girlish youthfulness and a wholesome aspect. Her facial features have a lavish, well-fed look, yet her earnest, vulnerable gaze has a sincerity and innocence that belies her carnal allure. There is still much of the sweet little girl in this persona, though she has blossomed into an opulent goddess. She is an angel in the manner that the Baroque masters conceived the Cherubim and Seraphim--as possessing a beauty that is divine and celestial, yet incarnated in a fleshy, sensual human form. A living work of art.

Now, on to the behind-the-scenes images that we initially promised. Technically, these are not actually "making of" candids for a shoot that has already happened, but a promise of things to come. Katherine has been booked to walk in a runway event for Bancroft Bridals, and the Judgment of Paris has been blessed to receive two snapshots of the advance fitting session for the show.

Everyone who recalls Miss Roll's phenomenal 2010 bridal campaign for the Formal Source already knows that Katherine, who is already one of the two most beautiful models in the industry, appears even more gorgeous when she models bridal gowns, and in this image, we see that her loveliness has reached an even higher zenith than it did in her last such promotion.

The gown in the image is a stunning creation from Maggie Sottero called "Fiorella," but if you view the item in the label's online catalogue, you see it draped on a painfully malnourished model with a grotesquely jutting collarbone and stick limbs, a girl whose emaciated figure ruins the look of the dress. The company states that the gown's "alternating diagonal pleats accenting the bodice and fitted hip area create a sensational figure," but their underweight model has no bust to fill the bodice, and no hip area to fit.

Now, consider how the same dress is transformed into a thing of beauty when it is presented on a model with a "sensational figure," one with voluptuous contours and a shapely "hip area" that the fabric holds in a loving embrace. Katherine stands on a platform like a goddess on a pedestal, as is only right. There is no other model in the world with such a luscious, shapely physique. Her body sculpts the gown into a curvaceous, womanly form, every rich contour pleasing to the eye. Only in their fantasies did the designers imagine that their gown could ever look this beautiful, just as only in his dreams has any groom ever conceived of such a gorgeous bride.

A closer view highlights Katherine's most celebrated physical features--her shapely arms, universally acclaimed as the most gorgeous arms of any model in the industry. So full and round, as if moulded by Nature into the most perfect of human forms, they speak of the model's sensual nature. Observe the wickedly seductive details of the dimples at the elbow and knuckles, delicate traits that are irresistibly alluring. Her neck area is as smooth as polished marble, with her clavicle attractively submerged in soft fullness. Like an ornate border for a painter's masterpiece, the dress is the ideal frame to showcase the timeless beauty of the model's figure.

Although Katherine's bridal dress will be the jewel in the crown at the Bancroft Bridals show, we do have one more look to display--Katherine in a green bridesmaid dress, the colour of which, we are told, is "much more vibrant in person--more of a kelly green." Strapless and sleeveless is always the ideal look for plus-size goddesses, especially if they have physiques that approach Katherine's in beauty. Indeed, this straight-on photo showcases her figure especially well, a form that incorporates the best aspects of each body type, from the buxom devilry of the hourglass figure to the sizzling seductiveness of the cello shape. Observe the attractive outline at the model's midsection and just below. No wonder Bancroft Bridals selected Katherine to walk in its runway presentation.

A close-up offers a second look at her sumptuous arms. Note too the richness in her facial features and the substantial neck-and-shoulder area, making her seem like a Rubens Venus come to life, dressed in contemporary clothing. The sensual hint of fullness escaping the lip of the dress indicates its close, perfect fit. Even with a bare hint of makeup, her complexion is flawless, her demeanour disarmingly endearing and approachable.

Needless to say, all of Katherine's fans--which is to say, every single aficionado of plus-size beauty--will now be hoping to see images (or better still, video) of Katherine walking the runway for Bancroft Bridals in her stunning Maggie Sottero gown. If the label itself sees the photographs of Miss Roll in its "Fiorella" dress, then Maggie Sottero will likely replace the image of the androgynous girl in its catalogue with a picture of Katherine looking so well-fed and luscious. Never has there been a more vivid example of how much better an outfit looks on a curvaceous model than on a waif.

We are honoured to have received these behind-the-scenes photographs of Miss Roll's fitting session. If the public were treated to images of such a gorgeous and genuinely full-figured model more often, then the incidence of eating disorders would all but vanish, as women everywhere would aspire to possess the natural, goddesslike, size-18 physique that Katherine exhibits to perfection.

I can't even begin to say what a pleasure it is to see such an extraordinarily attractive model who is honestly curvaceous. Even at this site, which I know tries to focus on legitimate plus-size models, I find that many of the girls, pretty as they are, seem quite slim, like they are too thin to be wearing the clothing that they're modelling. I envy the Brazilians with their Fashion Weekend Plus Size and models like Mayara Russi.

But Katherine Roll is so gorgeous that no one, no matter how brainwashed by the thin-centric media, could deny her beauty. Yet she truly has the figure of a goddess (such an appropriate word!). Looking at her headshot is like seeing the face of an angel. The sight of her voluptuous figure in that breathtaking bridal dress is indisputable proof that curvy models make everything they wear, especially fitted dresses, look better than do either size-0 girls or faux-plus models.

Any time I see a post with "Katherine Roll" or "Kelsey Olson" in the subject heading, I know that I'm in for a treat. I'm delighted that we got to see these beautiful fitting-session photos.

Such fullness, such beauty, even in regular candid snapshots. My goodness, the mind reels at how gorgeous Katherine's next test or commercial campaign will be.

I love that feathered hairstyle as a frame for her sweet face. That, and her delicate expression, make the headshot seem like a dream. And I enthusiastically second the premise that Katherine has the most gorgeous arms of any model. Looking at her images, one realizes why the Victorian writers celebrated the beauty of women's arms as much as we, today, talk about the beauty of women's legs. Today's perpetually starving models and actresses don't even have arms anymore, just bones covered by a thin layer of leathery skin. But Katherine's round, full arms, so naturally shaped and free of unattractive "tone," are truly works of art.

Along with Kelsey, Katherine is my favourite North American plus-size model.

I think Katherine has a fantastic figure, so perfectly curvaceous. Her physique should be the definitive plus-size model form. She's a true goddess.

It's like that white gown was designed with her body in mind. When she models that dress on the runway, everyone will gasp at her beauty.

I can't wait to see more of her work.

It's so refreshing to see a company using a model who has such gorgeous, shapely arms. When full-figured women see photos of Katherine looking beautiful and confident, as she does here, photos that celebrate her figure, they will begin to believe that they too will look spectacular in a sleeveless dress. Bravo Bancroft Bridals!
