Default Marc von Borstel

Although our Web site focusses primarily on the model's contribution to the successful promotion of plus-size fashion (for without the model, nothing else would be possible), we also acknowledge to the vital role played by the photographer in bringing Classical beauty to life. And one photographer who deserves public acclaim for his work with plus-size models is Washington state's Marc von Borstel (and not just because his surname suggests a Germanic heritage).

Perhaps the most significant "litmus test" of any photographer's abiilty to capture plus-size beauty on film is, How well can he shoot Barbara Brickner? As we noted in a message that has just recently been archived on this forum, Mrs. Brickner's work with photographer Michel Arnaud defined the look of Mode magazine during its heyday, and her influential test with Douglas Bizzaro remains the standard against which all plus-size model test shoots can be judged.

But it turns out that both this acclaimed test series featuring Barbara, and this celebrated headshot of the model, were both photographed by Marc von Borstel. So his ability to capture both the physical allure of a living goddess, and the wilder emotions of a consummately expressive model, are beyond doubt.

In a gentler mood, he also shot the famous cover image for Mrs. Brickner's clothing line,

And although this may be somewhat off topic, Marc von Borstel also provided the photographs for a coffee-table art tome that has been described as a "blend of high-fashion photography and classical dance." The story behind this work, recounted in here, is actually rather interesting.

We look forward to seeing what further contributions this gifted photographer makes to the promotion of timeless beauty.
