Default NEW at The Judgment of Paris: Video Gallery

In an attempt to preserve the more notable recent appearances by plus-size models in video features, we have compiled a new "video gallery" (linked below), with corresponding images and URLs. The segments vary in duration from fifteen seconds to several minutes, and come in sundry Web formats. It is likely that only readers with broadband connections will be able to view the clips properly, especially the streaming videos.

Regrettably, several of the most celebrated examples of plus-size models on video are not currently available to us, including Kate Dillon's 1997 TV commercial for Just My Size (when she was a size-16/18 goddess), as well as Valerie Lefkowitz's commercials for David's Bridal and Target. Perhaps we will be able to include some of these in the future, if readers are so kind as to provide the footage. We also have in our possession several clips that have not yet been converted to Web formats, but will be added in the near future.

In the meantime, dim the lights, put your feet up, and dream about what film and television might look like, if Classical-proportioned ingenues were the celebrated stars of stage and screen.

Default ''Throw me a curve''

The Barbara Brickner video would be amazing if it was larger. The Penningtons video is nice but it takes a long time to download, even with highspeed internet. Lara Johnson's video has the most beautiful mood. I think the idea of promotional videos is great. I hope more companies try it.

Did you ever listen to the lyrics to that Go-Go's song in the Curve trailer?

Girls are shapely by design
Exactly what you've got
Is so easy to adore

I found a page which has them written out. It's like a great little size positive poem:

''Throw me a curve''

"Shapely be design." What a clever turn of phrase! It's so self-evident, when you stop to think about it, that you would assume every woman should realize this. But it's hard, when your perception of beauty has been led in a different direction from youth.

What amazes me about that Elena Miro video, and the shoot that it was a part of, is how perfect it is, in every way. It's very sexy, but classy as well -- not the slightest bit vulgar. It begs the question -- why doesn't everyone try to meet this standard?

But I agree with Kaitynn that no setting could be more perfect than the one in the Lara Johnson video. It reminds me of the environment that you see in so many Old Master paintings, in which the Venuses are always shown reclining most sensually on a couch, or on a sofa, or on a bed of pillows.

Lord&Taylor has a circular out right now that utilizes just this kind of setting -- but they completely ruin the effect by featuring bone-chillingly bone-thin models. This obviously would been an ideal setting for plus-size goddesses:
