Default Mode TV (with Michele Weston)

Although the intriguing prospect of Mode TV never materialized during the hallowed magazine's run, we are pleased that one of Mode's founders, Michele Weston, is keeping the dream alive with her series of entertaining and size-positive television appearances on plus-size fashion topics.

We recently enthused about two of Ms. Weston's Great Day Houston TV segments, which starred an attractive, youthful model named Cara. Now, we are delighted to share yet another Great Day Houston clip featuring Mode's former Fashion & Style Director:

- Click here to watch the video

This time, the featured model is an even more lusciously-proportioned goddess, a Texas stunner named Nikki Meyer (comp card viewable here).

Nikki, who is represented by the Neal Hamil agency in Houston, is listed as a size 14/16 at 5'9, but her measurements are a provocative 47-41-48. Those are perhaps the most womanly proportions of any successful plus-size model, but what makes Nikki even more exceptional is that she is also breathtakingly gorgeous, a stellar embodiment of timeless beauty.

Her features are softly rounded, glowing with robustness and vitality. Her high cheekbones endow her with a perpetually girlish look, which is enhanced by the fullness in her face.

Her well-fed beauty is particularly evident in her neck and shoulder area, the repleteness of which is lovelier than that of any rival goddess.

She is intensely charismatic, with a easygoing, sunny disposition, beaming with pride in her own superlative beauty.

Her movements are languid and graceful, almost balletic in their relaxed languor.

Her outfit is somewhat on the formless side, but her generous figure endows it with shape and contour.

When she stands, she appears completely at ease, totally comfortable with her most decadent feature, her sensually curvy 41" waist.

Note, during the clip, that as Ms. Weston discusses the styling of the outfit, she lays particular emphasis on Nikki's hat. This is indeed a lovely accessory, and enhances the ensemble considerably--as seen in this capture, showing us an alluring glimpse of the model's ample figure in profile.

In fact, the show's host becomes so enamoured of the hat that, in one of the most entertaining bits in the segment, she asks the model to pass it on to her.

Plus-size beauty aficionados will be most grateful to the host for this request, because it leads to several heart-stopping shots of Nikki lazily running her hands through her hair, in a bewitchingly flirtatious manner.

It also allows the viewer to enjoy the beautiful sight of the model's uncovered face.

Without a doubt, Nikki possesses one of the most opulently-proportioned figures of any top plus-size model, and it is to the great credit of Ms. Weston and Great Day Houston that she was chosen for this segment.

But what else might one expect from Mode's guiding light? That magazine won legions of enthusiastic readers by featuring, in its pages, models with the precisely kind of rich curves and unrestrained beauty that Nikki possesses.

These clips offer a tantalizing hint of the kind of size-positive programming that Mode TV would have aired, if it had ever made it to broadcast. Alas, for the moment, it remains nothing but a fond dream; but kudos to the always-inspirational Michele Weston for bringing it to life, with her delightful television appearances.

Oh, and incidentally, fans of Cara--the young model who starred in Ms. Weston's two previous appearances on Great Day Houston--will be delighted to see her turn up at the end of this segment,

specifically called out by the host, as an unscheduled extra "surprise" for her audience.

One of the things that I especially enjoyed about this video was that it has a fun, upbeat tone. Thats something about MODE that I always loved. It never got me down; it always suggested that being a full-figured girl was the best thing in the world. This video had some of that spirit. The bits with the host dressing herself in the models accessories, and the improptu appearance of Cara at the end, were charming.

I adore the hat that Nikki was wearing. I remember first seeing that style on this forum, in the thread about the "Old World" Saks campaign,

and later, in the post about Andrea Horblitt in Figure magazine:

Its a very feminine design, and proportion-wise, it suits generously curvy women really well.

And Nikki is amazing! What a luscious goddess - and deservedly proud of her well-fed beauty. I showed this clip to a male friend, and when Michele mentioned that Nikki was wearing a swimsuit underneath her top, he mentioned how much he wished Nikki were modelling the swimsuit on its own. :-)

Thank you, Michele Weston, for some great plus-positive TV.

Default Goddess TV (!)

Nikki is gorgeous, and has a genuinely stunning figure.

Ms. Weston's name came up in a new article yesterday:

Good fashion advice:

[G]oodbye, baggy black dresses and stretch pants. Hello, hot styles like an orange flared coat with elbow-length sleeves and a purple polka-dot party dress with a flirty bow...

"Accentuate your curves. Don't hide them," said Michele Weston, a principal in MJW Style Media, a New York-based brand consultant to EvansLondon.

And here's an interesting bit of news from the article:

This strikes a welcome chord with Kathryn Mullen, a full-figure model and executive producer of Goddess TV, a Dallas-based company developing a cable TV beauty and lifestyle show for women in this size range.

She believes U.S. retailers need to change the way they market to full-figure women...

"The truth is, full-figure women are looking for recognition and acceptance. They want to see themselves attractively portrayed in media and advertising," she said.

As a component of "attractively portrayed," she should add, "youthfully portrayed, by genuinely full-figured models" (i.e., portrayed by girls over a size 14, not faux-plus models).

But how exciting to hear of Goddess TV - a television program specifically created for full-figured women! I hope it shows attractive fashions on true plus-size models, and has a size-positive philosophy. If it does, then it will realize the dream of "Mode TV" that people have talked about for years...

Ms. Weston also appeared on ABC just yesterday, showing off some holiday fashions. Here's a link to the story, which is accompanied by a video of the TV catwalk show that she organized:

I like the violet top that the blonde model wears in the video. Michele also makes a great point about why A-line skirts are much more attractive on curvy figures than pencil skirts. I think she's right!
