Default Whitney: CoverGirl ad #1

Yesterday evening Cycle 11 of America's Next Top Model premiered, but for fans of true beauty there was only one reason to tune in, and that was the see the debut of Whitney's first Cover Girl television commercial.

During every season of ANTM the previous cycle's winner appears in a series of TV ads for the show's main client, Cover Girl. But just as Whitney surpasses all of the show's contestants in beauty, her Cover Girl ads are similarly more appealing than those of any of the previous winners.

The first promo begins with a close-up of Whitney's face and eyes--those hazel-green eyes which are so reminiscent of Shannon Marie's.

The commercial shows Whitney travelling to various castings in New York, even as she delivers a voice-over in her soft, girlish tones.

The imagery of the ad harmonizes with Whitney's disposition. The backgrounds are pretty and natural, shot in soft focus.

Next, the camera captures her with a faraway look in her eyes as she wistfully notes that life in the big city has meant leaving friends and family behind.

The decor of the apartment matches Whitney's personality--warm and gentle, feminine and inviting. Notice the presence of plump pillows and curvaceous shapes, all complimenting the model's own soft curves.

We see a tight close-up of the model's lovely face as she reflects on her success, her visage exuding the irresistible self-satisfaction that won her so many fans.

But the moment that stops viewers' hearts is the final scene, which shows Whitney falling backwards into bed. (Just look at that adorable smile.)

Fittingly, for a princess like Whitney, her bed seems to be made of the softest material imaginable. It envelops her as she sinks into it, embracing her lovingly and gently, providing her with the sensual comfort that she enjoys.

And finally, for the pièce de résistance, we see a close-up of Whitney on her bed, her golden tresses spread out loosely over the pillows, her face radiant with pleasure. Notice here the loveliest trait of her facial features--the "slight rise" of a "slope toward the throat."

The cameraman, obviously captivated, lingers for several long moments on Whitney's lovely face. This final shot--and indeed the whole commercial--is a masterpiece of gentle sensuality.

One must compliment Cover Girl's director for filming a commercial that celebrates Whitney's beauty in such a loving way. The ad is tenderly romantic, adhering to a dreamy feminine aesthetic that underscores and compliments the softly rounded appearance of a plus-size model. The filmmakers obviously tailored the commercial specifically to Whitney, who, with her lyrical, effervescent demeanour, exhibits the modelling brilliance that enabled her to win the last cycle of ANTM

Glad you didn't miss it. When I got up to the second commercial, I was wondering if you remembered to record them.

Whitney is modeling Marina Rinaldi for Saks 5th Avenue's Salon Z. Hopefully this means we'll get footage of her on a Marina Rinaldi runway soon.

What I find most remarkable about this commercial - which has to be the most beautiful TV ad I've ever seen - is that Cover Girl is allowing Whitney to be sexy, but the right kind of sexy: playful, innocent, wholesome. The shot at the end, when she falls back into bed, then the camera shows her in close-up, is so effective. It's a "kiss me" moment, and I don't think any viewer can fail to adore her at that point.

Another thing that makes the commercial so captivating is Whitney's voice: it's crystal clear, but soft and girlish. It's a truly feminine voice, which you rarely hear on TV or in film anymore (since the media keeps pushing for androgyny in women).

Lovely ad.
