Default Size-14 women happiest (article)

Here's something rather encouraging - a new study reveals that women who wear double-digit dress sizes are far happier than their underweight rivals.

The article is at the British newspaper The Telegraph, and although it's a typical mixed-message piece, the pertinent excerpts are as follows:

Size 14 women 'happiest with life and looks'

Size 14 women are the happiest with their life and looks, according to a new study

29 Dec 2008

Girls who wear the dress size rated their general happiness higher than any other with a quarter saying they were extremely happy.

More than 43 per cent of size 14 women also said they were as happy as they could be with their career, while almost a third say they couldn't be more content with their love life.

A spokeswoman...said: "It's great to discover that being a size zero doesn't necessarily bring you happiness. Our research shows that the curvier size 14 woman is much more comfortable with their shape and has a happier outlook on life."

The article also comes with a lovely recumbent picture of Sophie Dahl from the beginning of her modelling days, when she was beautiful - before she diminished herself into a skeleton.

The caption reads:

Model Sophie Dahl was famously a size 14 when she signed on with the Storm model agency in 1997
The point? Instead of resolving to starve in the new year and making themselves miserable, women should let themselves eat whatever they want, and, you know, be happy.

These results are welcome, but are hardly surprising. Nature has endowed women with a natural inclination towards health and well-being, and the degree to which they embrace their desires is the measure of their happiness.

It is not accidental that women derive such pleasure from eating, and feel such misery at diet-starvation and exercise-torture. That is the body's way of seeking out its own best condition.

By eating generously, women attair their most beautiful state, and countless millennia of evolution have developed in the female body a powerful inclination to reach that goal. Thus, women achieve happiness twice through uninhibited indulgence--first through the pleasurable act of eating itself, and then through the benefits of becoming increasingly attractive.

By contrast, food deprivation and body-diminishment yield misery for women, both through the gnawing sensation of perpetual starvation, and through the loss of beauty and youth as the body becomes haggard and emaciated.

Even the loss of a few pounds impairs a woman's beauty and causes her suffering, while an equivalent gain immediately improves her appearance, and gives her physical satisfaction.

No wonder, then, that plus-size women are the happiest, for they allow their beauty to reach full potential, and provide their bodies with the nourishment that they desire.

Here's another image of Sophie Dahl from her most gorgeous days in 1998, republished not long ago in a British newspaper. Notice her buxom contours, the softness of her face, and how her midriff strains against the constricting panel of her dress (suggesting that her waist would be fuller yet if it were not constrained). At this time, she was the most gorgeous of all supermodels, second only to Shannon Marie as the loveliest plus-size goddess. She looks healthy, robust, and radiant in a way that she never did again as she lost weight and beauty.

This is the look of true happiness--a happiness that any goddess can achieve.

I must say, looking at that photograph certainly made me happy!
