Speaking of the Lane Bryant ads, a supporter of plus-size models recently created a hilarious parody of a typical Victoria's Secret commercial as a response. The thinking behind this parody obviously was, "Since Victoria's Secret uses ever-more-skeletal, cadaverous-looking models, why not just take that to its logical conclusion and film a commercial with actual skeletons and cadavers?"
The grimly ironic part is that the models in this commercial are very close to the actual size of the VS waifs. This is basically what they look like. The narration is funny too, when it says that this is the sort of commercial that ABC and Fox actually would like to air. Compare this to the Lane Bryant ads, or to any lingerie images featuring gorgeous plus-size models like Kelsey Olson, and the madness of the current media standard is apparent. The idea that this emaciated appearance is what passes for "perfect" is indeed a joke. Last edited by HSG : 18th January 2012 at 18:54. Reason: URL edited |

Graham, that is hilarious! Although the filmmaker forgot the skeletons' breast implants.

Very funny and very sad at the same time, though I have to admit that the vision of skeletons with lingerie is not that far off from reality. At least it gave me a good laugh. |

I thought of that commercial when I stumbled across this graphic the other day:
![]() Very dark humour. Like the Victoria's Secret parody, it's more unsettling than funny because really, it's terribly close to the truth - not only in the sense that straight-size models do in fact look like this, but due to the even grimmer reality that their eating disorders have led more than a few minus-size models to literally die (and the skeleton is a traditional emblem of death). |
