The Daily Mail -- the most pro-curvy newspaper of the moment -- ran an interesting comment from famous designer Hervé Léger the other day.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/a...o=feeds-newsxml "Too skinny and too sad" is how he characterizes today's models. And who could disagree? Quote:
What may finally be dawning on women is that today's models are "too sad" precisely because they are "too skinny." Skinniness and sadness go hand in hand, just as being well-fed and curvaceous is a recipe for happiness (and beauty). There are two reasons why this is still a bit of a mixed message, though. First, the '90s supermodels may have been less anorexic than those of today, but they were still underweight and still promoted eating disorders -- and even suffered from eating disorders themselves, as the article about Kim Alexis revealed. They were a preferable alternative to today's catwalk cadavers, but were still unhealthily malnourished. Second, there are models today who are not "skinny and sad," and those are plus-size models. One wishes that Léger had acknowledged them as a preferable alternative to today's androgynous, minus-size models. Nevertheless, it's wonderful to see a designer speaking out against the toxic, pro-anorexic look of modern fashion. |
