Default Kristina Yeo: A Wealth of Curves


In the recent thread about Kristina Yeo's breathtakingly beautiful front-and-back covers for the latest issue of Poor but Sexy magazine, Graham noted that Kristina is now represented by Muse Model Management in New York City and expressed a hope that we might get to see new images of Miss Yeo in the near future.

Well, the future is now, because just yesterday, Kristina's Canadian agency, Ford Toronto, published a host of eye-catching new images of the size-16 beauty that testify to her shapely curves and prodigious potential.

First, however, it is a pleasure to note that Miss Yeo's figure has blossomed into a richer size. From her former 38d-36-51 stats, she is now listed with measurements of 45dd-36-52. The curvier hip measurement is especially admirable, since persuading the fashion industry to celebrate models with visibly womanly bodies, including generous hips, is key towards restoring the timeless ideal of feminine beauty and eradicating the absurd notion that models should be androgynous stick figures comprised of flat surfaces and right angles, with no secondary-gender characteristics and no swelling curves.

The most beautiful of Kristina's new images, and one of the most bewitching intimate-apparel photos we have ever seen, is this masterpiece of soft sensuality. Recumbent poses such as this are always seductive, as they betoken the alluring indolence and lassitude that one associates with lavishly proportioned goddesses. Adding to the beguiling appeal of the image is the fact that Kristina is seen lounging on a sofa, the soft cushions of which appear thick and well-padded, in a visual echo of the model's own plush appearance. More enticing still is the fact that the model has clearly sunken deeply into the cushions (for we see her at eye level), communicating an intoxicating sense of the model's weight. The position of the left leg, draping over the other, adds to the provocative undercurrent of the photograph, suggesting a conscious effort at display. The model languidly exhibits her soft curves, conscious of her irresistible appeal.

A closer view highlights further elements which make this image so alluring, such as the rounded swell at her waist, only partly hidden by the model's arm, and wisely left visible rather than airbrushed away. Other appealing details, such as the sensual presence of dimpled flesh on the model's legs and the fleshiness at her neck area, with the clavicle wholly submerged in soft fullness, confirm this as an ideally size-celebratory image. Even the negligent positioning of the model's right hand adds to the seductive sense of laziness, the captivating persona that the model creates for this photograph, of a goddess who avoids any exertion and prefers lounging on plump cushions and indulging herself freely. But the viewer should not let all of these desirable qualities distract him from the real key to the success of the image, and that is the model's soft, gentle facial expression. A carnal look of any kind would have been overkill in an image that is so inherently steamy, so the model's baby-soft look of gentle innocence is the ideal choice. Observe that even her facial features exhibit an attractive appearance of fullness.

The point about the facial expression is a critical object lesson that one can take away from this exemplary test. We have noted before that some models, with inherently doll-like facial features, can successfully adopt even mean or cruel expressions, because the innate prettiness of their faces always soften the effect. Kristina, on the other hand, has stronger facial features, so in her case, her most effective images are those in which she adopts soft, gentle looks. This was the key to the astounding beauty of her Poor but Sexy covers, of her previous test photograph showing her against a grassy backdrop, and of the masterpiece of languid feminine allure shown above. In the following memorable headshot, Kristina deftly takes her expressions as far as she reasonably can. Any further pouting would be distracting, but this expression tests the limits. Her eyes simmer with a dark fire, the heavily lidded gaze exuding passion and carnal sensuality. The golden flow of her long, fair tresses over her shoulders softens the effect, as does the well-chosen pink lip colour. (A red would have been too extreme.)

Next to the heart-stoppingly gorgeous sofa image, above, this picutre offers the finest exhibition of the model's gorgeous physique. Not only is it outright sensual, but it is a body-positive photograph as well--and the finest plus-size-model photography reconciles these two imperatives. The model's pose showcases her buxom voluptuousness, but also freely exhibits the seductive roundness of her waist. Kristina dramatically pulls open her while feminine blouse, as if to say, "Yes, look at curves, and discover the ideal shape of true beauty."

Although Kristina possesses shapely 52" hips, none of the images in this test showcase them as vividly as fans might hope. This black-and-white composition does, however, create an eye-catching S-curve effect. The robust fullness that one perceives in the model's figure, as well as her long blonde hair, soften the overall tone of the picture and renders it visually appealing. Krstina creates a persona of a vixen who wishes to appear dangerous, but whose penchant for self-indulgence betokens qualities of feminine softness belied by her black attire.

For counterpoint, we will include one photograph which comes from an earlier Kristina test. This image testifies to the irresistible appeal that Kristina exudes when she adopts sweeter, softer facial expressions. Serious looks are difficult to master, and many models require years before they find the elusive territory where expressions are dark and passionate but not mean or aggressive. But smiling expressions are always fertile territory for plus-size models. The gesture by which Kristina plunges her hand into her tresses is a coy, flirtatious touch, very attractive, and little extra-appealing details, like the pink flowers in the foreground, which play off the model's pastel-blue blouse and the pale-green plants, enhance the appeal of the portrait.

Now, if we return to another photograph of Kristina in her leather-jacket ensemble, shown above, we see that this image is infinitely more delightful than the black-and-white photograph. When she smiles, Kristina's beauty is dazzling. The flow of her hair and the coquettish kick of her legs makes this an irresistibly flirtatious picture. Even the dark hue of the attire cannot disguise the model's girlish charm.

Kristina is an attractive and talented young model with a gorgeous figure and limitless potential. If she keeps her seductive curves, she could materially help shift plus-size fashion towards restoring truly full-figured models as the industry standard.

Kristina has a gorgeous figure and a magical smile. The most encouraging sign is that she is achieving success without diminishing her stunning curves. I hope she keeps her shapely 52" and size-16 figure and doesn't diminish herself one lovely inch.

(BTW, very clever post title: "A Wealth of Curves," the flipside of the name of the magazine in which Kristina recently appeared, Poor but Sexy.)

It's interesting how Barbara Brickner's images keep coming up as reference points for legitimately plus-size Canadian models. Karsten noted how Justine Legault's editorial for Coup de Pouce magazine directly invoked one of Barbara's most famous Mode editorials. This image, on the other hand, reminds me of a two-page layout by Barbara that, I believe, was originally published in Glamour magazine circal 1998 and is preserved in one of the Barbara galleries.

It's fascinating to compare the two:





Each has its advantages. Kristina has the softer, more voluptuous figure, making her image more sensual in that regard, while Barbara's pose, with the kick of her legs, is more coyly seductive and flirtatious. Kristina's expression is gentler and more doll-like, while Barbara's is more feline and carnal. Kristina's fair skin tone makes her seem attractively vulnerable. In fact, the décor of each room matches the models' respective complexions.

All in all, I think each picture generates a distinct effect very memorably. Kristina's is a softer, gentler, more well-fed blonde beauty, while Barbara's is more darkly seductive.

The extra fullness of Kristina's figure and the size-positive roundness of her waist might ultimately tip the favour towards her photograph, but both are masterpieces of womanly beauty, and Kristina's picture might not exist without the precedent of Barbara Brickner.

By kind permission of the model, we are now able to share several more images from Miss Yeo's captivating recent test series.

Most alluring of all is a pair of photographs showing this stunner in a tiered dress that wraps close to her figure, embracing her rounded, size-16 curves. The sleeveless style bares her attractively untoned arms, while the close fit delineates her buxom contours, reverse-view curves, womanly hips, and, most alluring of all, a slight swell at her waist. This is by far the most sensual image in Kristina's test, apart from her beguiling sofa photo.

As this full-length indicates, the abbreviated style of the dress also exhibits Kristina's shapely legs. The tiered fabric creates a fascinating visual. It subconsciously recalls bandage wrapping (than which nothing could embrace the body more snugly and lovingly), yet the ruffling of the fabric is extremely feminine, and the delicate peach colour gives the model an extra touch of softness. (Kristina, having a striking look, benefits greatly from fashions that bring out her gentler qualities.) Here too one sees a seductive roundness at Kristina's middle. We must also compliment the extremely attractive setting. Not only are these photographs shot in an idyllic outdoor locale, but the finely-wrought stonework of this monument imparts to the image a Classical quality, thus associating Miss Yeo with the art of Antiquity and its idealization of the plus-size female figure.

In this image, Miss Yeo skillfully mixes different sensations to achieve an attractive effect. Her eyes are wide and beseeching, filled with emotion, but instead of channeling this intensity through all of her facial features, she deftly relaxes her lips, which creates a gentler effect than when the mouth is too aggressively set. The pose is also a skillful blending of disparate qualities. The hand gesture, like the model's facial expression, is demure, yet the profile positioning of the body seductively displays her voluptuousness. The viewer also perceives sensual fleshiness at the model's arms and shoulders, as far as they are bared, as well as along her back, just barely glimpsed.

Different viewers will have divergent opinions about this outfit, but the model's hair-teasing pose is irresistible. Kristina's long, fair tresses are a significant aspect of her beauty, so she understandably (and effectively) plays them up for the camera, drawing the viewer's attention to their enchanting beauty.

We leave off with one more look at Kristina in her tiered dress. The other images, being in colour, are superior, but we simply had to include this photograph as well, owing to the stunning element of the wrought-iron gate in the background. Such a decorative Victorian element substantially enriches the visual interest in an image, and associates the model with the castles and manors of a more beautiful, bygone era.

We are grateful to Miss Yeo for permitting us to share these unpublished images from her test, and in particular, the tiered-dress photos, which exhibit her curvaceous figure in an especially attractive manner.

Kristina is one of the industry's rare examples of a gorgeous and genuinely full-figured model (size 16 or better) who has significant agency representation. We earnestly hope that she will keep her stunning curves and not let anyone tamper with her figure, nor make her diminish her physique. If she retains her luscious proportions, then she could be one of the rare, few, truly exceptional and beautiful models who helps transform the industry and give it the size-positive orientation that it so desperately needs.
