Default Karen Vermeiren - Opera Diva

Gorgeous plus-size model and opera diva Karen Vermeiren was interviewed on Belgian television earlier today, and she looked absolutely stunning. The original link can be found here, while the video can also be viewed on YouTube.

Karen looks luscious, with a sensual curve under her chin. It's a pity that she is dressed in black, but the fullness of her figure is still evident.

I can't understand much in this Dutch-language interview, but I can definitely make out that at 3:39 the hosts mentions that, in addition to being an opera singer, Karen is also a plus-size model. At 3:56, the video features a stunning close-up of Karen showing the alluring fullness of her facial features.

Here's the video:

From a Google translation of the video description, the impetus for this interview is that Karen has been enlisted to headline three major opera productions, after having recently performed at the National State Opera in the city of Lviv, in the Ukraine:

Quote:
Demand abroad is overwhelming for the Antwerp soprano Karen Vermeiren. She will be taking on three title roles in the Ukraine: in Madame Butterfly, La Bohčme and Tosca. The offer came after Karen Vermeiren sang a few weeks ago in the National State Opera of Lviv was. She made such an impression that there was the opera's director promptly offered her these three key roles.

I'm sure that she will look gorgeous as Cio-Cio San, as Musetta (sooner than Mimi!), and especially as the passionate Tosca.

The concert that led to these bookings had Karen performing a tribute on the anniversary of the Belgian monarchy. I find it very fitting that Karen should be associated with a royal concert, given the aristocratic nature of plus-size beauty.

These images from Karen's Facebook fan page show the opera house in Lviv where she performed. Lviv was known for most of its history as Lwów, a traditionally Polish city, which was stolen from Poland by the Soviet Union during WWII (and never returned), just as most of Prussia was stolen from Germany and given to Poland (and never returned). Just as the Germans were, tragically, expelled from their historic Prussian lands, so were the Poles expelled from Lwów.

This gorgeous 19th-century opera house remains from those nobler days of yore. Here's a close-up of the poster advertising Karen's concert, hanging between the central columns of the facade.

Given its regal opulence, one could hardly imagine a more appropriate venue for a performance by a plus-size model/opera singer, especially to honour one of Europe's royal lines.

Here's a news report from Lithuanian TV about Karen's concert in Lwów. Karen first appears in the video at 0:52, and reappears numerous times thereafter. At 1:45 she even speaks a few works in perfect English.

An article about the event indicates the significance:

Quote:
On the occasion of the 180th Anniversary of the Belgian monarchy, Karen Vermeiren charmed the audience with her vocal mastery.

The evening was By Royal Command – Celebrating Belgium. The opera singer was accompanied by the Lviv Opera Orchestra.

The aristocratic theme of the event is most gratifying, for the reasons that Emily notes, as plus-size beauty is inherently an aristocratic aesthetic. The opulence of the city's opera house, which is indicated in several shots in the video, perfectly suits the richness of Karen's own well-fed beauty.

An item on that same web page mentioned in the previous post (with a link to the aforementioned video) also mentions that the performance in Lviv was a homecoming of sorts for Karen, whose grandmother emigrated from the Zaporizhia region of southeastern Ukraine to Germany during World War II, before subsequently settling in Belgium.
