Default Introducing Mercille Tiomico

Last year, it was our great pleasure to introduce gorgeous Cai Cortez to the North American public, a stunningly curvy Filipino actress who is carving out a respectable career for herself on the other side of the world.

We are now delighted to say that Miss Cortez has competition in the category of "most beautiful goddess of the Philippines," and that competition comes from a bona fide plus-size model named Mercille Tiomico.

Some of you may have seen a graphic that has been floating around the Web, showing a group of curvy models under a "Just Beauty-Full" banner, and wondered to what the "SM Ladies' Fashion" caption refers.

As it turns out, SM is the largest department-store chain in the Philippines, and last year, the company held a widely publicized model search. The above graphic depicts the winners of this contest, and of these, by far the most gorgeous contestant is the goddess second from the left.

Yes, that's Mercille, showing off her womanly hips, full arms, and soft, rounded facial features. The following graphic, which also includes several size-positive comments from the model, gives an even better sense of her magnificent figure, particularly her voluptuous bust and full legs, and indicates her exciting level of vanity and self-adoration. Of the contest winners, she is clearly the most accomplished in terms of modelling technique.

As part of the publicity surrounding the contest, SM released a video showing the winners participating in a makeover-and-styling session. Naturally, Mercille is the first of the contestants to be given a chance to speak to the camera, at 0:25, but watch for her throughout the footage.

To officially introduce the contest winners to the world (i.e., to the media), SM staged a press conference in which Mercille and her peers made their fashion debut. First, the girls appeared in regular, casual attire.

Then, SM played a longer version of their makeover video. (Observe the alluring fullness of Miss Tiomico's facial features.)

Subsequently, the girls emerged in various looks from the company's new plus-size collection, cleverly dubbed "Substance."

Mercille first look was a simple red top, but her second outfit presented her in a seductively tight skirt that defined her hips and rounded middle.

Miss Tiomico's show-stopping outfit, however, was certainly her third look, a fiery red dress that embraced every luscious curve of her body.

Far from being a minor affair, this press conference was covered by all of the major Filipino fashion press, including Cosmopolitan magazine, which published a story about the event. When does one see American Cosmo devoting space to plus-size fashion?

Better still, many Filipino plus-size bloggers were invited to attend as well. This writer penned a sentiment that echoes our own appraisal of Mercille's beauty and talent:

I LOVE LOVE this shot of Mercille Tiomico. I admit she was my particular favorite. She just knew how to work the room and just exuded sexiness! Smize kung smize. Tita Tyra Banks would be so proud:

Since her win, Miss Tiomico has gone on to become by far the most successful of the various finalists of SM's contest. In January, Mercille appeared in a fashion article in the Philippine Star, which featured a stunning image of the model,

as well as a size-positive fashion statement:

Mercille expresses "that a lot of full-figured women are afraid to wear clothes in striking bold colors. [She] believes in going out of that comfort zone and trying shades of blue, yellow, fuchsia and green . . . [and] that it's about time to show that being full-figured can be sexy and attractive in so many ways, especially in fashion."
If anyone could indeed prove "that being full-figured can be sexy and attractive," it is the gorgeous Miss Tiomico, as she demonstrated in a subsequent editorial in the Manila Bulletin.

Titled "Sultry," this story had the Filipino goddess channelling plus-size singer Adele:

However, as is so often the case, the source of inspiration is outshined by her imitator, as Mercille is far more gorgeous and desirable than the British chanteuse.

Observe the soft, babylike roundness of the model's face, her gentle, little-girl expression, and that most sensual of all physical features, the dimples at her knuckles.

This is an editorial of extraordinary quality, and would merit inclusion in Mode or in any fashion magazine. The model's posing is note-perfect. Observe once more the seductive dimples of her plump hands.

When published, the story justly appeared above the fold on the front page of the publication's fashion section.

In a delightful behind-the-scenes snapshot from the photo session, Mercille exhibits her minx-like coquettishness, a flirtatious vanity which increases her beauty still further.

Most recently, in April of this year, an image of Miss Tiomico illustrated a fashion article in yet another Filipino newspaper, the Manila Times. (In the absence of an Asian plus-size fashion magazine, newspapers must take up the slack.) If anything, this stunning image indicates that the model's delicious vanity has only increased with her career successes. The top embraces the soft, undulating curves of her full waist.

Mercille's precocious modelling talent didn't simply materialize the day that she entered the SM contest, however. Prior to her victory, she had already shot a number of fashion tests, from which the following image is by far the most captivating. Observe the soft, sensual curves of her middle, which she strives to keep in check.

A second image of the model in the same outfit accentuates her generous voluptuousness, while the cushions of the sofa on which she reposes echo her own soft physique.

A pair of headshots demonstrate the model's remarkable range. The first is especially effective, a petulant look, which, given the model's innately babylike, rounded features, creates the compelling persona of a selfish, spoiled girl who has been denied a much-desired luxury.

A second picture, on the other hand, continues the youthful theme, but this time the model exhibits a touch of naughty delight in some devilry that she has just undertaken.

Demonstrating Mercille's facility for serious looks, the following picture is a noble portrait that captures the model's dignity, while still acknowledging her youth. The fullness at her neck is intensely seductive, her gaze deeply affecting.

In a closer view, she engages the viewer in an irresistibly compelling manner. Her facial features appear especially full and replete in this picture, thus particularly alluring.

In a nod to delicious excess, the following trio of photographs show the model positively draped in accessories of every sort. The pillows on which she rests, and the soft, white fur on her lap, subconsciously impart a pleasurably tactile sensation to the viewer.

A closer view demonstrates the luscious fullness of the model's soft neck. It was well-fed beauty such as this that surely originally gave rise to vampire myths and their seductive focus on what, in underweight girls, in a physical characteristic that lacks sensual attributes, but in plus-size goddesses, is overwhelmingly seductive.

A third image in this outfit shows the model adopting her signature look, the spoiled, selfish vanity of a goddess who knows just how desirable she is.

For our final picture of Miss Tiomico in this introductory post, we turn away from professional pictures and toward a casual snapshot that demonstrates, perhaps better than any other photograph, just how stunning a beauty she is. Few models have ever created Polaroids as gorgeous as this. The model's eyes are hypnotic, her limbs soft and full, her bare shoulders seductively sensual.

Bravo to Mercille for her deserved win of the SM contest, and for her many subsequent career successes. The North American plus-size industry is sorely lacking in models of East Asian descent. In Miss Tiomico, they could have one who is gorgeous and genuinely full-figured, and clearly exceptionally talented. She is "campaign ready."

We earnestly hope to see her career advance, whether in her native Philippines or in North America.
