The fall campaign at Laura was really disappointing, but the new Winter (or "Holiday") images are much more interesting.
They show off the soft beauty of Liis round facial features, and many of the items are cut to exhibit a wide, bare neckline. Liis has that feature that has often been praised on this forum (and in the aesthetic texts of the past) - no visible clavicle - so she is the perfect model to show off these styles. ![]() I hope the company puts out a "behind the scenes" video for this shoot, as they did in seasons past. It would be fascinating to watch, and the videos always give a more complete idea of what the clothing looks like. http://www.laura.ca/lauraplus/en/index.spy |

The room that provides the setting for this campaign is somewhat chilly in its white austerity, but otherwise, this a beautiful campaign. A video of the shoot would be wonderful to see. The following image is particularly effective as an evocation of hearth and home. The red scarf and mittens play off beautifully against Liis's raven tresses. ![]() And this image shows an uncommonly attractive dress from Laura, which still tends to focus too heavily on dull "career" wear, in most of its collections. The design is especially appealing as a frame for Liis's decolletage and bust, which (to borrow a phrase from Alexander Walker's guide to Victorian Beauty) "in its luxuriance, seems laterally to protrude on the space occupied by the arms" (141). ![]() The ribbon is an especially winning touch, considering the holiday context of the collection, allowing the wearer to present herself as the most attractively-wrapped Christmas gift of all. |
