The online images reveal that the red-carpet event was the same showcase of starvation it usually is, with every star appearing to be desperately in need of an emergency transfusion of Whitney Dineen's cookies. If anything, the award winners looked considerably worse than the rest of the celebrities. And Catherine Zeta-Jones, the only A-list star who comes close to deserving the "goddess" epithet, was notably absent.
One of our readers opined that if this is what the stars look like with makeup, then small wonder that they fare so poorly without it.
In addition to Keely Shaye Smith, the one other actress whose appeared to defy the anorex-chic look was Erika Christensen, whom Renata recently singled out for praise:
That particular dress may not have been the prettiest of choices, but in a world that is so chronically undernourished, Ms. Christensen stands out as a healthier beauty than most:
And Ms. Christensen often dresses in an even more attractive and curve-flattering manner--as we see here, in a photograph from a recent promotional event:
As for Keely Shaye Smith, Chad is right when he points out what a refreshing contrast she provided to the rest of the Hollywood crowd:
And there is something particularly significant about seeing her on the arm of her husband, who, with his Remington Steele and James Bond roles, is such an iconic GQ. It helps remind viewers that on planet Earth, rather than in Planet Hollywood, the curvaceous girls really do "get the guy":
And on that note, a reader recently notified us of the article linked below, which provides a touching glimpse of the nature of the relationship between Mr. Brosnan and his wife. Anyone who has ever read Goethe's Götz von Berlichingen will appreciate this illustration of a union that is a kind of "alliance for life," and a bulwark against the ills of the world.
