I would even go one step further and say that I wish any company or industry that stands to lose through the abuses of the diet industry would organize a lobby in Washington, because you may be sure that an industry as lucrative as the weight-loss alliance has influence in that sphere.

And when it comes to manufacturing truth, don't forget the late-night comics. It's no joke- reports have shown that many people get their information about world events from this source. They prooceed to make a joke about something for a few nights, then for a few weeks, and suddenly, the viewers think it's true- or at least, that anyone who's "hip" thinks it's true, which achieves the same effect of persuasion.
