Given their histories, it is most interesting to see Crystal Renn and Kate Dillon modelling together in the new Lane Bryant campaign. Like Shannon Marie and several other plus-size supermodels, Crystal and Kate were accomplished straight-size models before they decided that constant starvation, physical torture, and the very real possibility of an early grave were simply not for them, and decided to allow their figures to recover their naturally womanly proportions, before entering the plus field.
Both models have received a great deal of recognition outside the industry for their commendable decisions, and they have often served as representatives of plus-size beauty to the world.
With a campaign that includes Maiysha and Ljubenka, Lane Bryant now boasts a more distinguished modelling contingent than it has in recent seasons. However, Ljubekna, fine model that she is, regrettably falls into the faux-plus category, and although she is more charismatic than most size-12 models, many Lane Bryant loyalists will still affirm that they would prefer to see more genuinely full-figured fashion icons. And although Kate Dillon will always have the support and admiration of the plus community for her countless breakthroughs, her images--fine as they are--always evoke a feeling of, "If only . . ." (I.e., "If only she had retained her more curvaceous proportions from the early days of Mode, when she was variously a size 14, 16, and even an 18, and when every single image she created was a visual revolution.")
But what is really missing in the new promotion is that miraculous setting, that dream-realm of pure enchantment, which served as the backdrop for the LB "Spring Preview" campaign, and transformed it into the most artistically accomplished promotion in the companyís history.
Nevertheless, Crystal does manage to turn out an eye-catching picture, cleverly hiking up her skirt to show off her legs:
Skirts are very much in season, as we see in this image of Maiysha. Itís interesting to note that Maiysha has had very good luck with Lane Bryant, and, for whatever reason, consistently makes a better showing here than in any other commercial work.
And finally, here is Kate Dillon in a berry colour that suits her fair complexion very well, adopting a soft, gentle expression that creates a dreamy mood. It is nice to see Lane Bryant tailoring items expressly to frame the decolletage of their customers (the "body-as-fashion-accessory" principle of styling).
And although the image is just a little bit too daring to post on the forum, a visit to the LB intimates page is sure to delight Kate Dillon fans no end, as it shows (at the time of this writing) Ms. Dillon in the process of . . . removing that attractive top.
