I don't think anyone needs to resign themselves to the world the way it is, especially if they feel it has moved in a questionable direction. In Nikki's speech, she compared the past to the present, and showed how much healthier and more natural society's view of feminine beauty once was. If that was the view throughout history, there's no reason it shouldn't return- as long as everyone does whatever they can to help make it happen.

This being Mother's Day, it's worth remembering that attitudes are shaped most in childhood. If more mothers paid greater attention to "what their daughters know" instead of "what their daughters eat", and if they cared more about what their daughters put in their *minds* rather than in their *mouths*, maybe fewer young girls would be so vulnerable to the prejudiced ideas of the media cliques who oppose plus-size beauty.
