I took a chance and saw the movie last night, mostly because I was wondering if it really could be an "anti-diet" film. It IS. I think the way the film is most positive is that it has the Prince Charming/Football Quarterback openly say that he is looking for a girl who ISNT on a diet. That message will probably have more of an impact coming from the "hot guy" than if it came from a parent. I think the film is really contrasting being natural, like Hilary Duff - who has a natural kind of beauty, against being ARTIFICIAL. And the movie shows how dieting, plastic surgery, etc. end up making the other girls and women in the movie look very artificial - and even grotesque. Thats another good message here - these characters are trying to buy beauty, but end up just making themselves ugly. I think the movie is really going for a young audience. A lot of the comedy is NOT funny, and it doesnt compare to great teen films like Clueless. But Hilary is a pretty good actress, and she has some good scenes. And HSG, you would like this - Hilary and her Prince exchange poetry with each other. Its funny that were talking about Hilary Duff. I saw a video she did called So Yesterday which had a lot of closeups of her making cute facial expressions to the camera. She was pretty clever about it. I remember thinking, If any models see this, they should try to copy some of these looks. |
