Thank you, Mica. The designer's concept was truly inspired. The "harem" outfit ties the collection in with the Orientalist thread that has been evident in several plus-size retailers' campaigns this season, and the "Femme Fatale" theme is a perfect fit for a plus collection, inasmuch as it presents the fuller figure as an archetype of femininity, and underscores the dangerous aspect of sinful curves. This manner of presentation is "edgy" in the very best way. Rather than restoring to run-of-the-mill modernism, it challenges an audience by emphasizing the beauty of the curvaceous female figure--a type of beauty that is still widely suppressed by the mass media. That makes it genuinely cutting-edge and radical in a way that yet another runway show with deconstructed outfits and freakish makeup could never be.
