Do you know who Keely Shaye Smith is?

She was/is the bravest female television journalist from the early 90's. Keely did the most controversial stories on environmental issues and animal abuse. Her journalistic reports made morning television viewers cry and want to make a difference.

In my opinion, because Keely was a female rocking the boat, she wasn't given a lifetime pass to the journalism hall of fame. Instead, her instant success and award winning reports made a difference. Keely's reward was her being offered "less controversial" fluff pieces.

But Keely has remained true to her convictions and wouldn't put up with fluff.

Keely should have become a regular correspondent on the TV show 60 Minutes but she was only in her mid twenties back then and 60 minutes was probably afraid to hire someone so young, pretty, and so scary to corporate America.

It's sad to see male television journalists get a lifetime pass to the american television viewer while Keely was offered no such option even though the work she did in the early 90's can bring anyone to tears 15 years later.

But don't cry for Keely, she's still doing her thing, her way, and the vacuuous world of news television doesn't even know what it let walk out the door several years ago.
