I think the fetishization of unnaturally hard/flat characteristics is a function of modern society. It indicates how people lose their humanity and live mechanistic lives. There's something about the repetitive movements of gym regimens that seems so.......machine-like. Robotic.

Is weight loss basically dehumanizing? I don't just mean in terms of appearance- although that's true as well. I wonder......
