"I'm not a model--I just play one on television."
We are always thrilled to add another talent to our survey page, especially when the inclusion of said talent is long overdue.
Christina Schmidt's appearance on the survey might surprise some readers, since Miss Schmidt is not currently a working plus-size model, but a plus-size actress. However, in playing the role of plus-size model Terri MacGregor on the hit Canadian television series Degrassi: The Next Generation, Miss Schmidt has provided a whole generation with their most vivid impression of "what a plus-size model looks like."
And plus-size modelling could have no better TV representative than Miss Schmidt. Her soft, rounded facial features are the very epitome of Classical beauty. Among actual plus-size models, only Shannon Marie personifies the timeless ideal in her print images as well as Christina does on screen.
Regular readers of this forum will know that we have enthused about Miss Schmidt ever since her first "plus-size model episode" premiered in 2002. We would have included her among the survey entrants even then, however we lacked the means to create original screen captures. And because the size and quality of screen caps (even from DVD recordings) remains middling, at best, we have provided three rows of images in Christina's gallery, rather than the usual two,
Season One of Degrassi is now available on DVD, so we have drawn our captures from the show's second season, when the Degrassi wardrobe department began dressing Terri in a more feminine and appealing manner. Note in particular the numerous "peasant blouses" in the captures. This curve-adorning style was all the rage at the time, and Christina did a beautiful job of modelling the peasant look on the show. Dressed in this very romantic manner, and sporting a Renaissance hairstyle, she truly appeared to be a Classical goddess come to life.
Whether as an actress, or as an actual model, (or both,) let us hope that Christina's star continues to rise.
