| Entertainment Tonight just showed some actresses talking about their pressures to be thin. I am happy the dangers of anorexia are getting attention. But when I talked to someone about Mary-Kate today, they were surprised. They said they thought the Olsens looked "normal". I was shocked. It really showed me how powerful TV can be, when anorexics start looking "normal" even though they are actually so skinny that they are suffering from a serious disease. Getting people to pay attention to anorexia by covering Mary-Kate Olsen is important. But I think it's sad that no one praises any actresses for NOT starving. There was a rock concert on TV tonight with Hilary Duff. She is still very thin, but at least she doesnt look anorexic. Why doesn't anyone say what a great thing it is that are a few stars, like Hilary or Raven-Symone or Christina Schmidt on Degrassi, who are at least closer to what "normal" really looks like? I know I feel better about myself seeing pictures of Valerie and other plus-size models. I bet a lot of other people would too. But they never get the chance. |
